Posted on: Clay County, In Query Forum Board URL: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/In/Clay?read=927 Surname: Mace, Johnson ------------------------- I'm looking for information on my branch of the mace family. My grandmother tells me that her grandmother was named Ellen/Ella Mace. (born in Indiana ca. 1859-1861). She was married to Edward Johnson (parents Levi and Rachel Johnson of Putnam County) in 1882 and they were living in Brazil in the 1900 and 1910 Census. Her children with Edward were Ibbie and Irene. She also had two daughters by a previous marriage, Hulda (married name Mullinex?)and Minnie (married name Reynolds?). Her father was born in Tennesse and her mother in Indiana. In the 1860 and 1870 Census I find a David (born in TN) and Margaret (born in IN) Mace who had a daughter of about the right age named Eliza. Can anyone link (or refute)these as the same person? From Edwards obituary, I also know that one of his sisters was married to Winfield Mace. (His parents, per the 1870 Census, were Robert and Louisa. His siblings were Philander, Clema, Leona, and David) Anyone know which sister he married? (Sarah, Micha, Eliza, Elisabeth and Rachel) Thanks in advance, Eleanor Peters
If you will email me personally I will try to help you.. bass103@juno.com Mary Jane Mace married John A Modesitt and six known children and possibly two more... of course now these children would be Modesitt surname.. but there are several Mace surnames persons in Clay County .. I met Lewis Mace a few years ago when his daughter was up from New Albany Indiana and Lew was close to 90 then.. of course he is dead now but his daughter has lots on the mace family. I will try to find an address for you to contact her (daughter) if we connect.. Mary Jane was the youngest child in the family I think Lew told me but she would have been his aunt..
