He and his wife Elizabeth Hedge Vandevender lived in Brazil, Clay County, IN on the 1880 census. Their children were Martha, Joseph, Sarah J., Cora, David M., and Ruth. Ruth is buried in Old Hill Cem. next to her step-sister Ida M. Helton. By the 1900 census Elizabeth had remarried John C. Helton. Elizabeth died in Brazil in 1915 and was buried by Miller and Sons Funeral Home in Cottage Hill Cem. in Brazil. I have been to the Cem. but cannot locate the gravesite or any other records. I do know there was a lot owned by a Joseph Vandevender as well as a Sherman Helton. Sometimes the names are spelled Van Deventer, Vandevander, etc. Any help would be appreciated. I have been stuck on Alfred Vandevender for 12 years. Any ideas? Do you show any record of a death or burial in the surrounding area? I would greatly appreciate any information you might have.
