Thank you to whomever brought up the subject of mines. I had no idea that there were mines in Clay County. It has always been a mystery to me how some of my ancestors chose where to move. John and Maria Berrisford Pointon and some other Berrisfords moved from Ipstones, England (where there were mines) to Clay County in about 1867. In about 1873, John and Maria moved to Osage County, Kansas (where I believe there were mines at one time, but I hadn't put this together until now). Eventually John, then a widower, moved to either Colfax County, NM or Huerfano County, CO where there were a great number of mines. It all makes sense now. John must have been a miner and moved where the work was! Thanks again! Valerie Williams
