    1. [INCLAY] Re: Robison family
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Robison, Kennedy, Humphrey Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/xh.2ADE/562.2 Message Board Post: I responded to a note you left in GenForum re "John & Martha Kennedy") 3 and a half years ago, and now my attention has been drawn to your Message Board posting of 11 Aug 1999. As I suspected, you ARE tracking one of my forebears, but he was James, not John Kennedy. John Kennedy (b 1827) and Catherine Humphrey (b 1828) left Kilmarnock, Ayrshire, Scotland in 1851-2, and, after spending a couple of years in Ohio, settled in Clay County, Indiana 1854. They brought with them a son, John, born in Scotland 1851, and James, born in Ohio 1853. They subsequently had six more children. John sr was a coalminer - he helped dig the first mine shaft in Brazil 1854 - as were sons John and James. It was James who married Martha ("Mattie") Horahan in 1881, and they had five children, the oldest of whom was Katie Kennedy. According to W.Travis: A HISTORY OF CLAY COUNTY(c1908), she was born in Dick Johnson twp. on 12 Nov 1881, and became the second wife of Chauncy Neal Robison on 21st Oct 190! 2. That book also enumerates their 2 children to date, although a response to your posting, by Brenda Robison, shows that there were six further children later on, including your grandfather Robert. William Travis makes the following remarks about Katie Kennedy: "Mrs Robison attended the district schools of Dick Johnson township and the state normal at Terre Haute, and during three terms after the completion of her educational training she taught in the schools of that township." She appears in 1900 Census for DJ, Clay, as a Schoolteacher. If you are interested in tracing back the Kennedy line in Scotland, before John emigrated from the old coalfields of Kilmarnock to the young coalfields of Clay County, his father was John McFie Kennedy (b 24 Dec 1791) who married Marion Richmond (2 Jun 1815) and died 19 Mar 1857, all in Riccarton, Kilmarnock. JMK's father was Thomas Kennady b 1765 and his mother was Katherine Paton, both of Riccarton. I can also trace back Katie Kennedy Robison's line back through her grandmother Catherine Humphrey, whose father was John Humphrey, a Calico Printer in Kilmarnock (b 1803 d 1849) and whose mother was Mary Weems (b 1800 Stranraer d 1871 Kilmarnock). Mary's father, James, was a shoemaker, and John's father, James Humphrey (1767 - 1845) was a "Day Labourer" of some description. Catherine Humphrey emigrant wife of John Kennedy, was the sister of my great grandfather. Anyway, you can e-mail me at [email protected] if you would like further details. Good luck on your search. Please let me have any further information you have about Katie Kennedy. I still don't have her death date, and I would be very interested to know what other Kennedy relatives are buried in Bee Ridge cemetery. John Humphrey
