    1. Re: [INCLAY] Walker Lang(K)ford Jr.
    2. Hello Don: We have Lankfords connected to our Haughee/Hawhee family. Walker Lankford was married to Catherine Hawhee/Haughee. The name for our earliest relative in the 1820 census was spelled Haughee but most branches went to the Hawhee spelling except ours. John Walker Lankford was born in Kentucky in 1801 to Larkin Lankford. He married three times and married Catherine in 1840. Catherine had been married to a King. The spelling seems to go back and forth between Langford and Lankford. The family that you have found in the census is related but I don't yet know how. Catherine and Walker also had a son Sylvester. Have more information if you want to compare. Kaye

If you connect to the Collins name do you have a James Collins that married a Sophia Stark and lived maybe in Vermillion or Vigo County in the early 1900's. would have been born in the 1880's maybe 1870's. They had Hazel, Vera, Athur, Harold, Ruth, and he had a son named Herman? Some of the Starks also lived in Clay County. Kaye

    2. Fred Finkbiner
    3. Dear Listers, Please read this information, check out the websites noted in the article and then do your part by contacting your legislator and voicing your opposition to this bill. Sincerely, Darlene Anderson Executive Director, Genealogical Society of Marion County and County Coordinator, Marion County INGenWeb This information is from the IN-GENSOC-NEWS The electronic newsletter published by the Indiana Genealogical Society, Volume 2, Issue 1-26 January 2005 The Indiana General Assembly is once again considering a bill that would restrict access to birth and death records. This issue was last raised in the spring 2003 session of the state legislature, and at the time was defeated by a vote of 50-43, with 7 abstentions. This year's bill is House Bill 1551 (HB 1551), and if passed it would go into effect on July 1st. Sponsored by Representatives Peggy Welch, David Wolkins and Gregory Porter, the bill closes access to death records less than 50 years old, and birth records less than 75 years old. When vital records are issued, the bill limits access to: the person listed on the record; the mother or father of the person listed; the grandparent of the person listed, the spouse, sibling or offspring of the person listed, or "a person conducting a genealogical study in compliance with rules adopted by the state department". What is troubling is that rules created by the State Department of Health would not be subject to legislative measures. Also troubling is another provision of the bill, which says that the cause of death shall not be listed on a death record given out unless the person requesting the record "proves a documented need for the death certificate." The Indiana Genealogical Society urges Indiana residents to contact their legislator and voice their opposition to this bill. Contact information is available at <http://www.in.gov/legislative/>. You can read the entire bill at <http://www.in.gov/legislative/bills/2005/IN/IN1551.1.html> Stay tuned for updates.

    3. Many geneology software packages allow you to privatize your datafile. Family Tree Maker allows you to protect the privacy of living individuals by designating certain facts as private. When you privatize your file, Family Tree Maker temporarily replaces all data fields for living individuals with the word "private." Only relationships between living individuals will be retained. This process prevents sensitive information from being imported, exported, printed, copied, or published on the Internet. If this issue is of concern to you, I would strongly suggest purchasing software with this feature. Also many geneology websites will publish nothing but a surname and the word 'living' for a first name along with the relationships if the individual is less than 110 years old and no death information is posted. They are as anxious to protect living individuals as you are - it wouldn't be good business to do otherwise. Please also remember that any ancestory information pulled from a family tree posted on the internet should not be treated as fact until you've confirmed it through official records. It's a pointer in a new direction to research, not written in stone. I've found several of my family suddenly 'acquired' spouses and children when I had already established through government records that they had died with no descendents. 3. Well, I just this minute found Minerva Collins in Morgan Co. IN, SD#5, ED#54, Sheet 4A, Washington twp. Martinsville City 2nd. ward and it said she was widowed, had 4 children and only 3 living. It said she was born in IN but she wasn't. Father and Mother were right in where they were born. Mary a daughter is living with her. Right next door to her is a William Collins, but he was born in 1874 and if she and Patrick were only married in 1884 this couldn't be a son unless Patrick had children before he married Minerva, and I am kind of leaning along those lines, because why would she be living right next door to another Collins? This is one time that we all want the 1890 Census!!!!!!! It was Patrick and Minerva, not Margaret, Margaret was Minerva's mother.
