Fred, I had given many pictures and a Bible Record to the Clay Co. Web but for some reason I can no longer find where to click. Has it been changed or what am I doing wrong? Barbara Rector Hill
Fred, I can read the page by scrolling up and down and across, but like you, it is too large to print. If there is something you want off that particular page, I will get it for you at Ancestry.com. I think I have a roll of Microfilm for 1910 in Clay County, but not 1920. CCGS Library has extracted all those census and they are available. Mary Gardner
I have the 1920 Clay County Indiana census CD but can't get it to print out so that one could read it well enough to transcribe. The page is on-line for you to see. Check it out at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~inclay/census/1920/258a.gif Let me know if you have any ideas on this. Does anyone on the list know a Frances Jones of Brazil and how I can reach her. She is in possession of a Bible with Daniel Wools' name in it. I would like to get in touch with her or her decendent. Thank you very much, Carol Blacketer Wools
the only Frances Jones of Brazil I know of died about 10 years ago.. if she had a Bible it probably went to either her sister who died in 2000. or her great grandson-- unless it went to her sister's grandson. Frances' son lives most of the time in Flordia but has a house in Town in Brazil. ----- Original Message ----- From: <CABGENE@aol.com> To: <INCLAY-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, May 07, 2005 7:34 PM Subject: [INCLAY] Daniel Wools/Frances Jones > Does anyone on the list know a Frances Jones of Brazil and how I can reach > her. From the Clay County Citizen, Bowling Green, issue August 8, l855: As some are not aware of the fact, we would state that a new Post Office has recently been established in this county, about five and a half miles from this place on the Brazil road, formerly known as Kennedy's Mills, now called Centre Point. Our friend Mr. B. S. (surname illegible), merchant, is postmaster and will receive the names of all the people in that vicinitiy who wish to subscribe for the Citizen. As the paper will reach them the same day it is published, we hope to receive a big list from that office. ~~Dixie Kline Richardson

Interested in contacting anyone researching this Roberts family. Apparently the family was in Georgia in 1792, moved to Kentucky (assume Henry Co KY), and moved to Clay Co Indiana about 1830-1. Thomas Shockley Roberts was born 30 Oct 1792 and he lived in Henry County Kentucky. I had assumed that he was born in this county until I read the 1860 Census of Clay County where I learned that he was born in Georgia. He married Nancy Ann Kelly, who was born 3 Aug 1797 (and I had assumed that she was born in Henry Co., Kentucky). I've identified eight children to Thomas and his first wife Nancy Ann Kelly. These Roberts children are: Jemima Ann b. 16 Jan 1820 (Jemima married Alexander Williams) Joseph b. 22 Apr 1821 (Joseph married Mary Boling in Putnam County Indiana on 12-15-1844) Martha Patsy b. 23 Dec 1822 (Martha married William Barnett) Nancy Ann b. 27 May 1824 (Nancy married William King Matkins in Putnam County Indiana), d. 17 Feb 1875 in Putnam County Indiana Sarah b. 1 Jan 1826 (Sarah married Charles N. Mills in Clay County Indiana 27 Oct 1849 according to Clay County maternity affidavits #2, p44 Asa b. 27 Apr 1828 William T b. 11 Sep 1830 (William T married twice; first to a Martha & then to a Mary) Eleanor Ellen b. 20 Jan 1832 (Eleanor married Benjamin Boling) Louise Elizabeth b. 1 Aug 1834 (Louise married Pleasant Lucas)
I'm writing to get more information about Andrew J Gray and Clarissa Elizabeth Hardin. The purpose is to find where he or both are buried at Mt Olivet Cemetery in Florida twp, Parke Co IN. There is no apparent Parke Co connection, but some possibilities. Andrew is one the list of Civil War veterans buried at Mt Olivet who has no stone and no known burial location. Perhaps one of his children lived in the Catlin area. I am not sure I have the correct Andrew Gray at this point, so please consider what I have found to be theory. An Andrew Gray is a 17 year old son in the household of Henry and Rachael Gray in Clay Co per the 1850 census. (The township inscription is missing from my Ancestry image.) He has a younger sister Marietta. An Andrew Gray married Clarissa Elizabeth Hardin in Putnam Co IN on July 07, 1859. Andrew J Gray b abt 1832 OH may have been in the 22nd, 63rd, or 5th Indiana Infantry. He may also be Andrew J who served in the 122 Ohio Infantry. I can't find Andrew and Clarissa Elizabeth in the 1860 census. In 1880 the family of Andrew J Gray and wife Elizabeth was in the north half of the Sixth Ward in Vigo Co IN. Children were Luetta, Edward(?), Charles, Alice, Nettie, and Georgia. Andrew was a laborer. In 1882 the family is in the Terre Haute city Directory. In 1900 Andrew is age 58, Clarissa is age 48, and her mother probable Elizabeth Hardin age 76 is living with them. There are two Hardins buried at Mt Olivet Cemetery, and Nellie Hardin is buried there, wife of Thomas Catlin. Any suggestions appreciated! Sharon Mills

Sharon, Do you descend from the Turner family in Brazil? Barbara Rector Hill
Hi Barbara, No, until this past November, I was known on the list as Sharon (McCoskey) Collins. I remarried in November; my husband is from Syracuse, NY. You will also find instructions for ordering the obit from the Vigo County Library. That should tell you where she is buried. The Trib publishes obits from Clay county, as well as the rest of the Wabash Valley, and the library has a great obit index online on the Vigo site. Hope this helps, Sharon Turner
