The tombstones have been copied and you can find that information at the Genealogy Society in Center Point. I think that area where the Cemetery is located is in Dick Johnson Twp. The Genealogical Society can be found on line at ccgslib.org Mary Gardner

Are you looking for the old catholic cemetery in Brazil. You have to acess it from Hendrix street. If you go north on Vandalia street, cross hendrix and the 2 blocks turn right and follow the road and you should be able to see it when you go as far as you can. There is a big 2 story house on the road you pass, keep going. At the end of that road you will turn left and there it will be on your right. It is not very far off Hendrix.
I visited that cemetery in 1999. My pictures show an intersection of Hendrix St. and Elm with a green road sign, reasonably large, saying "Rest Lawn Cemetery" with a straight ahead arrow, which would be pointing straight ahead on Elm St.. There is a gray mobile home/manufactured home sitting directly behind the sign (at least it was that color in 1999). My next picture shows a Dead End road sign with an gated entrance to the cemetery street sign that says Father A. Spicuzza Drive. I don't think it was a long distance from the intersection of Hendrix and Elm. I can remember going there as a child on "Decoration Day" but I don't remember it as being as large or nicely maintained as it is now. Maybe I just don't remember! I know when I needed to find it I had trouble at first because I didn't know the name had changed. It is in a really out of the way location. If you visit during the week and get lost, go to the Mayor's office on U.S. 40, and they can radio the cemetery caretaker to meet you (at least that has been available to us twice when we have gone to two different cemeteries there). If you visit on Saturday, the Brazil Public Library could probably show you a map. The mayor's office has free maps of the city, or used to. The cemetery caretaker had some very limited records and maps of the cemetery. A lot of the records are gone, I think. I 'm not a researcher of your family. However, I wanted to point out that there is a Jackson Hill. It is located in Sullivan County, Indiana. My grandfather spent part of his youth there. It was a mining town. I think the mines there had names like "Jackson Hill No. 5", but don't quote me on that part. The last time I was there, it was mostly empty. It's consists of only a couple of blocks or so. I believe that you can start in Shelburn on State Rd 48, then go East until you see a sign that points to Jackson Hill, then go South on that road. You might have to ask some locals to get the exact location. It's been several years since I've been there. If you do a search on mapquest.com for shelburn indiana, it will show that Jackson Hill is on 48. I believe that is a bit off, and that is South of 48.

There are Hipplehauser's at the Wabash Valley Obituary Index, the URL is: http://165.138.44.12/ The lists contain obit indexes from Vigo Co., Indiana and surrounding counties including Clay Co., IN and counties in IL. My husband's grandmother's name was Charlotte Hipplehauser/Hippelhauser. She married Hayes H. Johnson. Charlotte was born in 1900 and died Jan 30, 1971. They had a son named Harry. His marriage application states Charlotte was born in "Jackson Hill" Indiana. There is not a Jackson Hill but a Jacksonville, IN in Switzerland Co. If any of this sounds familiar, please let me know. Thanks. Carla
I found my father in law's Declaration of Intentions on file in the County Clerk's records. THere are some naturalizations in a set of books that are located in the Library. Remember, if you want to hire someone to do research, the Volunteers at the Library charge $10 per hour and they will research records at the Courthouse. They require a trip to Brazil for this kind of search. Most original records such as this cost you $10 each. Mary Gardner Decatur, GA
That was my first thought too, but I looked at that database already for the poster of the question, but it does not include Clay County. http://www.in.gov/serv/icpr_naturalization It includes 21 counties if I counted correctly from the drop down menu. I believe at one time I found some sort of listing of a naturalization record ( like an intent to become a naturalized citizen) for my Clay County relative at the Clay County Genealogical Society Library in Center Point, but it was not the actual record. I tried the court house and it was not there either - that was probably 5 or 6 years ago, and I visited in person. I can't remember whether some were there and just not my ancestor's or just what. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Sharon and Joe Mills" <mills@rnetinc.net> To: <INCLAY-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, September 11, 2005 8:08 AM Subject: Re: [INCLAY] Naturalization lookup, please! > > Have you thought of contacting the Indiana State Archives for the > information they have in their naturalization records? Have you thought of contacting the Indiana State Archives for the information they have in their naturalization records? Because they are extremely short-staffed, it will take some time to fulfill your request. You will, however, eventually get it. Put the agency name in a google search to find their database.
