Hi Bill, We were talking about your Clay County history books at out monthly genealogy meeting, we curious as how you came by the original copies. I have an original copy of the Clay and Owen counties history book by Blanchard bought by my great grandfather for $5.00, and I wouldn't take a fortune for it. Please listers NO requests for lookups. Doris Louise
Doris, I was high bidder at an estate auction. As an active genealogist, I knew it was going too low, so I kept my hand in the air the longest! I anticipated that I would have no trouble finding someone, sometime, that would want to own such an original set. I was right, but I offered and gave my time to all respondents first, because I believe in sharing available resources with other family history seekers. >From your closing line "no lookups", I've got to ask, What kind of a self -centered genealogical society are you? I have NO connections that I know of to Clay Co, and I gladly donated two weeks of my time to help several persons that I have never met. Some were elated to have learned that information was in the books about their family members. And I sent it to them with no charge for my time. Just what is the function of your society? mrbill On Sun, 13 Jun 1999 00:17:41 +0000 Doris Neal <doris@ncci.net> writes: >Hi Bill, > > We were talking about your Clay County history books at out >monthly >genealogy meeting, we curious as how you came by the original copies. >I >have an original copy of the Clay and Owen counties history book by >Blanchard bought by my great grandfather for $5.00, and I wouldn't >take a >fortune for it. > > Please listers NO requests for lookups. > > Doris Louise ___________________________________________________________________ Get the Internet just the way you want it. To All, No, I understand from the buyer of the original 1909 edition of the two-volume set of Clay Co History books which I had that there was a reprint of the contents of the two books into one book in 1973. So you might possibly be referring to the reprint, not the original. mrbill On Sat, 12 Jun 1999 03:11:30 EDT JANLENB@aol.com writes: >When you talk of the set of books are you referring to the large brown >book >that >has two volume's in one book? > > ___________________________________________________________________ Get the Internet just the way you want it. I have been out of town for a while so missed the bidding on the Clay Co. History books. William Travis author of "History of Clay Co." was my GG Grandfather. I would like to purchase a set of his books. If anyone has a copy they are willing to sell please let me know. Ellen Travis Addington Phoenix AZ
Bill, Thanks for offering to do lookups from the History of Clay Co. I am interested in any mention of Clarence Deal, Elizabeth Elliott Deal, Joseph Elliott or Dorothy Scott Elliott. Dorothy and Joseph came to Clay Co. by way of OH from England about 1866-67. Thanks for your help. Lynn
Darlene, There was an Elijah MIller who came from Ohio to Kosciusko Co, IN in early 1830s. Might be worth checking. Kosciusko Co, IN has a great web site at: http://user.ctlnet.com/gan155/kosco.htm Brenda Robison Indianapolis, IN
I myself was more than pleased with the information shared about the Clay County History books as I found two new connections to my family from the information that was found in them for other people! Had everyone read the emails you would have known that the book sale was only mentioned three times I believe, if I remember correctly, but also had other information even when it did mention it. THANKS AGAIN FOR ALL THE GREAT INFORMATION THAT YOU SHARED WILLIAM!!! WE DID APPRECIATE IT! When you talk of the set of books are you referring to the large brown book that has two volume's in one book?
Could you all change your Subject line to something else more descriptive the Clay Co History books sale, please? I have been mostly deleting those , not being interested in buying the book. Hope I didn't miss anything important.
Greetings all! I would like to announce to all of you that I have received payment for the Clay Co History books, hence they are sold. I will, as I originally announced, continue to provide lookups through tomorrow, June 12, 1999. After that they will be shipped to their new owner. In due respect of this occurence, it would seem appropriate that those of you who are exchanging communications on indivudual names were to enter your own subject matter in the "Subject" block of your communications, and no longer make everyone believe that the msg that you are sending pertains to "Clay Co History book sale" which was the subject of MY message to the list. I did make inquiry of the buyer to see if he would be able to continue doing lookups, and he did say that he would condider it. His time availablity would have to control his decision. I had previously intended to announce the new owner's name to the list, but it does not seem appropriate for me to do that since he may not wish to make himself available for consultation. That will be his choice. The amount of the final bid/purchase price was $110.00, so you all will have some appreciation of the value of the books. I wish I had a few more sets to sell at that price! mrbill William A. Hi Jan, I hope this is not a duplicate reply. I have been so busy lately that I am behind on answering my email and don't know if I answered this one or not. I am searching for the following: My father was Melvin Miller, son of Marshall Miller, son of Elijah Miller. They were from Monroe & Lawrence Counties in IN, and some were from Owen Co, IN. Might there be a connection? Would love to hear from you. Sorry Darlene - I've not run across a Marshall Miller or Ellijah Miller - mine are mainly in Clay Co. and Vigo Co. (the older ones anyway) from 1850's forward. Before that they were in Knox Co. OH. and Bedford Co. PA.. I can't find anything past that. My first GGF had brothers that came on west - I think KS. and for sure CO. but I haven't located them yet. I'll keep an eye out for your Marshall and Elijah tho. Jan B. in OKC
Hi and thanks, but their must be a problem with this as my Henry Long all information the same fathered children in 1868 and 1870 and the Civil War was over in 1865. I understand there was a Henry M.
