To all Reed (by any spelling) Researchers, My name is Nell Logue and I have a database of around 50,000 Reeds (by any spelling) and Kin. I am doing Look-ups for all interested researchers, but I need more Reed (by any spelling) information. Please submit your information to me to go in the Database. I would appreciate it very much and it will help so many other people. I am trying to get information from all over the USA and also foreign countries. After your information has been received and put in the Reed Database you may send in for Look-Ups on your Reeds (by any spelling) that perhaps someone else may have sent me. Please send your information to me at Nelllogue@texoma.net (Note the 3 'l's in the Nelll). In the subject line please write Reed Information If at all possible send your information in GEDCOM format, as I can import it right into the database. Text documents have to be typed in and take a lot of time. Your genealogy program manual will tell you how to export a GEDCOM. Try it. It is not difficult to do, but if, after your try it, you can not do it, then send your information any way you know how. I am going to be taking a short rest period from the Look-Ups while getting in all of this new information and getting it in the Database. So when everything is ready to start the Look-Ups again I will put a message on the Reed Genforum at http://genforum.genealogy.com/reed/ and also on the Read Genforum at http://genforum.genealogy.com/read/ and also on the Read List at READ-L@Rootsweb.com <READ-L@rootsweb.com>. When you send in for a Look-Up please write Reed Look-Up in the subject line. By the way, if you have books on Reeds (by any spelling) the information from those books would be great to go in the Database. They may contain the one ancestor that someone has been hunting. I will be looking for your Reed information. Please help. Nell
James Jackson was born 1831 in Decatur Co. He moved around quite a bit between Vigo, Owen and Clay counties. First and second wives were Bewely sisters. His third wife was Cynthia (Phipps) Fry, widow of William Fry of Clay Co. Am looking for information on where Cynthia died. Any information would be appreciated.
There where a couple of Moore families in Clay co. fairly early. David K. Moore born in Kentucky who came to Clay co. about 1835. He is the son of Jacob Moore of Posey twp. David married Dorinda McIntosh. Their children that I have listed are Samuel, Franklin, David E., Ethel m. Underwood, Eliza m. Wegner, Bertha m. Bell, Leatha m. Suster and Flora with no marriage listed. Jacob himself lived a long life and had several children of shich Hannah m. Loveall and Nancy Ann m. Patton were life long residents of Clay co. His other children lived in other counties or later moved to other states. Thomas of Dubois co., George W. of Lawrence co., and Reuben P. of Owen co later to Jo Davies co Ill. According to the Clay co history book David moved to Mason Co. Ill. and his sister Margret m, Widner moved to Douglas co. and unknown daughter who married a Turner lived in Tazewell co.Ill, His daughter Sarah Jane m. Mills and son Jocob Jackson Moore went with their families to Missouri and from there by wagon train to Oregon. Further there is a seperate Thomas L. Moore from Kentucky born about 1798. He was in Clay by 1838 in Jackson twp. I know some about his family as I believe he is related to my Zachariah born about 1824 in Kentucky. Thomas L. had Louisa m. Cox, John (b. 1839) and Eli(1853), Enos(1833), Luviey(1835), Job(1837). They also may have raised some grandchildren Gomery? Lousia and Luviey may be the same person as the birth dates are close. There is also a little later an Isaac Moore family but they are from Ohio and there is no evidence of any relationship to the Kentucky Moores. Now how Levi ties into these I don't know I suspect he was a brother or a cousin to one or the other branches. I am currently trying to sort out who was who to find where Zachariah ties in. terri

Mr. Petty -- As a volunteer at the Clay Co Gen Lib, I can answer your question. There is a reading of the Calcutta Cem and all of the cem in Clay Co. There is a volunteer in the library on Mon, Wed and Sat from 1 to 4 who might be able to do a look-up for you. Try: ccgslib@ticz.com Marcella Campbell
Has a list been made of the Calcutta Cemetery? My g-grandfather James H. Petty is buried there and am trying to ascertain if his two wife's - Elizabeth (Stallcup) Petty and Sarah Petty are buried there. Thanks. James Petty - gpetty1@earthlink.net
Lori, I attended a genealogy class at Parkland College several years ago. One of the things discussed was the collection of County Histories written by Charles Blanchard. Blanchard talked with the individuals he wrote Bios for and each one paid a fee for a copy of the book. I think it cost them $5. He wrote Histories for many Illinois as well as Indiana Counties over the years. I am sure his contributors made mistakes. I know I do. Mary
How reliable is the information found in Blanchard's History of Clay Co? How was the information gathered? Thanks, Lori Loria1001@aol.com

I have been seeing a lot of discussion of "LUTHER" lately and thought I'd ask if my LUTHER might be connected. Eliza Jane CAHALL married Charles LUTHER in Indiana on 5/10/1877. I have two Malindas in my Luther database. Malinda b 1829 is age 21 in the 1850 hshld of Joseph Luther and Mary Downs. Malinda J Luther age 16 is in the 1850 hshld of William Luther and Charlotte Stroud. I think I must have cemetery listings, she was born 17 Dec 1832 died 31 Jan 1873, m Lewis Hardin 21 apr 1858. I have a note in my To-Do list to look into this further, since I felt it was rather unclear which Malinda did marry Lewis Hardin. it probably was the younger one who got married in 1858, but as I recall I never found Lewis Hardin in 1860 to get and age. Joseph Luther from the 1850 census was the son of Christian, and he and mary Downs were married 20 Jan 1820 Crawford Co, IN. I don't know about Mary Haltom marrying a Luther. Is there a date? Will be happy to correspond with the lady looking for Malinda who married a Napier. Did that get in Clay Co Marriages or was it before the court house burned?
Help a stranger? I met a lady today who is searching for information about Malinda Luther, daughter of Joseph Luther. Virginia Ladda has no computer and lives in Waldron, Arkansas. I have her mailing address if any of you can help her. Malinda Luther married Cyrus Napier. Virginia thinks Malinda died in childbirth leaving one child, John Franklin Napier. This child age 8 was living with Jacob Luther in 1860. Was Joseph Luther's wife Mary Haltom Luther. A girl named Malinda was living in Joseph's household in the 1850 census of Clay County, In. Mary
My Graves line is John Graves and wife Polly Smitherman. Tradition says John came from Troy, N.C. I believe his father was Samuel Graves, but I have no proof. I have John Graves children's names and birth dates. PINHOOK to BRAZIL by Nell Decker Hubbard shows John's wife as Nancy Ann Smitherman, but that is an error. Nancy was her sister and she married Harbard Spencer. I think I copied the marriage records for the Graves in North Carolina and put them in the files at ccgs. I can check those dates if you need them. Mary
I have not made a point of collecting Graves, but yes there is a tie-in of Graves and Luther, mostly with the Jacob Luther family, who came from Randolph Co a little later than the Christian Luther family, and not all at once, but seemingly one family at a time. Fannie Graves married Michael Luther in 1825 in Randolph Co, if that is any help. The bondsman was Leonard Graves, who married Sallie Luther in 1827, not sure they came out to Indiana..
I am working on the John Graves/Rebecca Smitherman family. They came to Clay County, In. in 1828 from the Randolph/Montgomery Co., N.C. Maybe we are looking for the same grandparents? Mary
