I've been working on my Price family for a long time now and it's great to make a contact with someone else!!!! Just to make sure we've got the same Jacob and Delila....I just recently found out that my g-g-g grandfather, Daniel (1815-1897), had a brother named Jacob, another brother named Enoch and a sister Betty (Elizabeth). They all lived in the Vigo, Clay, Owens County areas of Indiana in the mid to late 1800's. Daniel and his wife Catharine (1815-1908) were married in Lancaster County, PA in the 1830's, but moved to Bowling Green, IN shortly thereafter. They are both buried in Terre Haute at the Highland Lawn Cemetery. There is a descendant of Jacob who lives in the Terre Haute area named Alyson Price (I'll have to look up her married name) and is married to a Jim. Just in the past few days, Jim sent me a picture of Jacob and his family outside their family home in Jordan, IN (Owens County). I have no idea how all these people relate to each other, but here are the names: Jacob (no picture of Delila.....Jim says that he has never seen a picture of her). Anetta Bell Price Amanda Long Price (possible wife of Marshall Andrew Price) Verna Dell Price Marshall Andrew Price Henry Price (a younger boy standing with Marshall - could this be your ancestor?) Melissa Alice Price Jacob Albert Price and William Sanford Price Are any of these names familiar to you? I have sent an email to try and reach Alyson or Jim for some more information which may confirm that we're the same family.......surely so, the names are too similar and in the same county. I have been trying (very unsucessfully) to find Daniel and Jacob's parents names and information about them. The children (Daniel and siblings) were all born in either Lancaster or Berks County, PA area. Does anything correspond to your stuff? Hope so. I'll look forward to hearing from you. Oh, and by the way, my name is Jimmy Cochran and I'm in Atlanta, GA. Jimmy Cochran >>> Steffani Kennedy <iggy29@scican.net> 12/15 11:48 AM >>> Hi James: So nice to hear from you! Jacob Price b.l0-l2-l8l7 and d.6-6-l896 and Delila(Strong)Price b.9-27-l828 and d.l0-3-l883 were the parents of my great grandfather, Henry Francis Price who is buried in Van Wert, Decatur County, Iowa. He was number 3 of their 6 children. I would really like to correspond with you and whoever else might have any information on my ancestors. Thank you and have a wonderful Christmas! 3. Well, I'm excited about all the info. you've given me. Yes, many of the names are familiar - I need to get into my file and let you know what I have. It's packed in my car, as we are heading for Missouri and Iowa for 5 days (tomorrow A.M.) to do some research. I'll contact you as soon as we return - I'm anxious to visit more. I have some obituaries for Jacob and Delila's children; pictures of their headstones and the cemeteries they are buried in. Daniel Sylvanus, one of their sons, went to Gage Co., Nebraska and is buried there. I am in Martinsville, Indiana, just north of Owen County and Clay County - however, I am an Iowa native. I've lived in Colorado, California, Iowa and now Indiana. Thanks for the leads; I'll look forward to hearing from you. 3. It would surprise me if clay came from a mine, because clay hasn't turned to rock yet. Clay is a soil type, usually deposited by water, lying on top of the rock in an area, and is dug out of a pit, either straight down in a flat area, or out of a hillside or river bank where the terrain is more interesting. -----Original Message----- From: Mary2gard@aol.com <Mary2gard@aol.com> To: INCLAY-L@rootsweb.com <INCLAY-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Saturday, December 11, 1999 5:36 PM Subject: Re: Diamond Park Co. >Bob, > >Do you know if they dug clay in any of those mines? 2. My thoughts were that they dug out the clay and then went on down after Clay. My father in law worked in a Clay Pit for the Hydrolic, but he died long before I got interested in this subject. Mary

My GGrandfather on my mother's side, bought a lot from Carbon Block Coal Company in Carbon around 1870. My GGrandfather Pietro Zambenini, was down in McAlester OK in 1894 and they had a big explosion that killed over 100 people. Fortunatly he was off sick that day and the ones who survived found that deep mines were opening around Perth IN and they all high tailed it up to Perth. 2. >Are you sure Diamond wasn't the name of the town? > I would say that Diamond was the town. In early 1900s it was a large town. I don't know the exact population, but was probably 2 x 4 miles in area. Was a mining town and had streets laid out with similar company houses and several businesses. My father and his parents and brother came there in 1901 from Italy and moved to Vigo County in 1908. I have checked the St. Mary's Cemetery listing and Pavelko does not show. LDS library in Salt Lake City has a microfilm of the register of the St. Marys Catholic Church which is a great resource for this town. It shows batisims, marriages, deaths, etc. That would be a key place to search for the Pavelko family. 2. I think there was a Diamond town, and there was a Diamond Mine. One of my GGgrandfather's, Michael Comer, was listed as working there. It said "Diamond Mine". I can't remember off hand where I found the information. I think it might have been a Brazil Directory?(late 1800's). Just a thought. Tharp7837@aol.com.

    2. Bob, Do you know if they dug clay in any of those mines? Our g grandfather, Ord Parker, fell down the shaft of the "Diamond Mine" in January 1869. They Hydraulic Brick Company had a mine up in that area too. They manufactured glazed bricks around the turn of the century. They would have needed coal to fire their kilns. Mary

    3. NAMING PATTERNS The lst son was usually named after the father's father. The 2nd son was usually named after the mother's father. The 3rd son was usually named after the father. The 4th son was usually named after the father's eldest brother. The 5th son was usually named after the mother's eldest brother. The lst daughter was usually named after the mother's mother. The 2nd daughter was usually named after the father's mother. The 3rd daughter was usually named after the mother. The 4th daughter was usually named after the mother's eldest sister. The 5th daughter was usually named after the father's eldest sister. (From Antique Week) - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- This pattern was not always followed exactly, but most would usually keep the pattern for the lst 3 children. If there was a name that was found in every generation, then somewhere in their children, you will surely find these names. If one is stuck on finding parents for an ancestor, try this pattern to give a suggestion as to a name to search for. Hope you enjoyed this! Nancee at iggy29@scican.net

    3. Diamond is a very small town in Parke County just across the railroad tracks from Dick Johnson Township in Clay County. St. Mary's Catholic Church is still there. Some of my ancestors were baptized/married there and others in the same family (brothers & sisters) were baptized/married at the Annunciation Church in Brazil. ----- Original Message ----- From: Kevin D. 2. Are you looking for something particular? I have been to Diamond, driving around looking for a Catholic graveyard with my Great grandmother's grave in it. I didn't find it-but I have walked around several graveyards. There is also a Catholic church still standing-ST Mary's- If I remember - it was a mission church but is no longer used. Also, I think there is a Greek Cemetery. The cemetery with all the Italian graves is in good shape. The Clay Co Genealogy Society probably could point you in the right direction. St. Mary's was a mission church of Assumption Church in Brazil. They might have information. Hope this might help. The Clay Co Genealogy Society is a great source of information. You might contact them. They have always been very helpful when I have been there. Good Luck Tharp7837@aol.com
