    2. Bill, You are most welcome for the 1900 census! I am enjoying the great responses I've heard about the census. It makes me very happy to know I'm helping so many others with their research. Good luck to you and I hope you can find many more surprises! :o) Becky Craig/Harlan/ Phipps/etc..... Cahall/Reece/etc....

    3. To whomever put up the 1900 Clay Co Census, my heartfelt thanks. It did raise an eyebrow, though. I have a photograph of the tombstone for Calvin Mattox with the date Dec 23, 1899 as the date of death. Imagine my surprise when I find him listed in the 1900 census! Just who do you believe these days...*laugh* So, I placed his census record in my computer file after his death date... Anyway, thanks again... Bill Strahle

    3. Hi all just an up-date and plea for help. although I have gotten a lot of help so far, so thanks for any past, present, and future. I have: 1. Steward Coats(1806-???) m. Hannah ??? (1825-???) 2.Lorenzo D.(1838-???)m. Rebecca McAllister (1839-???) 3.Eva Belle(1874-1911) m.Samuel M. Rea(1864-1947) 3.Mary R. 2.Lorinda(1833-???) 2.Nelson(1842-???) 2.Amanda(1844-???) 2.Edwin(1846-???) 2.Sylvestor(1850-???) 2.Emily(1852-???) 2.Rachel(1854-???) 2.John H(1855-???) 2.Margeret J.(1857-???) 2.William A.(1860-???) The dates of birth should all be consider "abt." as I calculated them from the date when the 1850 census was taken. Other than Lorenzo D. all the cildrens names are a best guess. Penmanship and quality of the copy being the variable. I am pretty sure on most though. This census was in PA, and Steward is said to have been born there so I Imagine the children were born there too. Lorenzo D. was married in Indiana, Owen Co. according to the records I have seen. I also have one person putting him in Vigo and Clay CO. also. This could be as Eva Belle his daughter apparently is buried in the Terre Haute area. That is also where most of Eva Belle's children were born. Many eventually moved to Michigan, but some relatives and descendants are still in this area. Lorenzo may also have been married to a Sarah J. Mizer but that is just rumor at this time. Hannah is a bit of a Mystery. She is young enough to be Steward's daughter, but old enough to have been his wife(barely). I think she was the mother of his children, but my prudish senses are having a hard time with her age compared to his and the date of Lorenzo's birth. She would have been thirteen, and with my daughter pushing 19 I'm having trouble with that one.=-) Again any and all help would be great Thanks,Tim B. 3. Killion Cemetery is located about one mile west and one-half mile north of Bowling Green, IN off 46. At one time this was called Mt. Carmel. This is in Washington Twp., Clay County, IN. My mother told us that there were two Killion Cemeteries at one time, but one she thought was Killian, but we have not been able to locate it. I have heard of one called Thomas, but can not locate it right now. Maybe someone from the Clay County Genealogical Society could help you. They have locations for all cemeteries in Clay County. >Can someone please tell me the location of the Killion/Old Thomas or Mt. >Carmel Cemetery. > >Thank you, >Betsy Killion > > >==== INCLAY Mailing List ==== >This list brought to you by Rootsweb,be sure to check us out at >http://www.rootsweb.com/ > >

    1. cemeterys in Harmony

    3. I know that I have found my grandfathers family on the census of 1880 and 1900 in Clay Co. IN. They came over to the U.S. from Wales and settled in Pennsylvania and then Harmony. The father and boys all worked in the mines, until the depression of the 30's, at one time the boys went together and bought some land and mined it until it played out. My great grandfather died sometime after 1900, his name was Robert Steele (b. october 1842) My great grandmother was Jane Carpenter Steele and sometimes Sarah Jane (b. May 1845). There children were: William b.3-28-1871, John 9-24-1872, Joseph 3-12-1874, Elizabeth 3-1875, James 2-21-1878, Thomas 1-11-1880, George 1-15-1882, Sarah Martha 1-27-1884, Herman 4-25-1886, Robert 2-24-1888, Frank and Archie ( Archie died sometime after birth, I think) 11-17-1892. There was an aunt Anna Steele b. 5-20-1869. William, John, Joseph, and Elizabeth were born in Pennsylvania the rest were born in Indiana. Sarah Martha is the only one I have been able to locate in the birth records in Clay Co. I have always been told that Robert and his wife Jane were buried in Harmony. I know that Robert Jr. is buried in Anderson, IN and Frank should be buried in Clay Co. Frank lived in Bowling Green as long as I can remember. Sarah Martha married some one with the last name of Bell and lived in the Clay Co. and Vigo Co. area. William may have gone back to PA to mine coal. I can't not believe how much I put down here, this is the first time I have put this all together in one place. Thank you for reading this, Karen
