The Bible shows the parents as John R. and Hannah Fuller Smith. Did I send you copies of the pages from this Bible? It didn't identify his brothers and sisters tho. Mary
Hi Heather, You should be OK with this, things have changed in the past 20 years but not so much that you can't learn the new ways ;-) First, I assume that you are using Windows, if so you should have MS Excel and /or MS Works. If you can use either of these programs then you are almost there. Start your Excel or Works program, with Works you will need to choose a data base or spread sheet format, either will work fine for this, with Excel a new spread sheet file should be open for you when the Excel starts. You will need to visit the Encyclopedic Directory web page at; http://www.rootsweb.com/~inclay/enc-dir/ and click on page 46, let the image load fully, it will take several minutes, once the image is fully loaded click on "File" near the top of your web browser and choose the "Save" option, your web browser will ask you where to save the image, just choose somewhere you will remember.Once you have the image saved on your computer you can open and view it anytime even when you are NOT on the Internet. I like to use a program called "Imaging" to view the image file but you can use any image viewer that you are used to. You will need to have the program that you are going to use to enter the data in to ( Excel / Works) open at the same time you have your image viewer open with the page loaded. You can re-size both program windows to half screen so you can see the image as well as the data program, that way you won't have to switch back and forth from one window to another. Let me know if this doesn't make any sense and I will try to explain it better. Okay Mary, you have the answer as to how they relate to John R. Jones. The marriage was in Vigo Co., IN. I also found the marriage of the daughter of Oliver H, Smith to George Patten in Clay Co., IN, the marriage of Amanda Wood to Henry Baker, Sylvester Smith to Cynthia Dodson all in Clay Co., IN Got copies of their marriages. The 1850 Census declares Amanda Wood a granddaughter, she was the off spring of Elizabeth Smith Wood. From all accounts Elizabeth Smith was the daughter of John R. Smith and Hannah Fuller Smith. Still have not found burial records for these, my mother declares they are buried at Carpenters Cemetery( I would like proof) all of the other family members are buried there. I have found everyone buried in Carpenters is a family member or related to a family member(of all the names I have come across) There are a lot of unmarked graves. I will check out all the known children of John R. Smith and Hannah. Grandma always told us about Hannah Smith, so I know without checking this is right. But it helps to have the verification on all family members. Perhaps we can get some death records on Heiman that will declare his parentage. I know that Marshall lived next door to John R., and believe he is relation to him also, as is A.O Smith but got to prove it. Muriel,' I have never followed up on Nealy! She was my grandfather Bill Orman's 3rd wife. I can check the census here and see what it shows for her. Which county was the marriage recorded, Vigo or Clay? When I get back to Terre Haute, I will take a look at the original and see what it shows. I think Charlie Sanderson was the son of Heman's daughter, but I forget which one! Mary
Yes, on US 40 East of Seelyville, IN= That was my great Uncle Cliff Latta, then his son Dennis took it over, it is now apartments and mobile home park. Still there. Mary, could you verify the parents of Nealy Wood who married Charles E. Sanderson for me? They married July 8, 1904 records b. 17-p459. The print was so black I thought they were listed on supplemental pages as Winfield Wood and Sarah A. McKinney, Could this be right? As to Heman Smith, yes, I got some census materials on him in Nevins Twnsp, Vigo Co. Yes, I remember that you have that Bible and records. Most of the names match, however some of those who died were not listed on census. We will probably have to take the Bible records as fact on them unless death records show them. Haven't got to that stage on his family yet. Muriel Mary2gard@aol.com wrote: > Muriel, > > Have you found any of Heman Smith's family in your search of Clay and Vigo > County? I wanted to let everyone know that I got a virus in my computer yesterday called KAK and it is a worm. I sent out two emails yesterday and I don't know when the virus came through for sure. For those that do not know how to check if you do not have an updated virus scanner, click on start, program, start up. If you have the virus it will say KAK. If you have it you need to upgrade your microsoft security (or whatever program you use). It will tell you how to check for the virus. You need to delete all incoming and outgoing and recent folders before you can get rid of the work. There is no way of knowing you have a worm unless you know where to check if you do not have an updated virus scanner. I hope this helps.
Does anyone have the listings for the Carpenter Cemetery? Is it a large or small cemetery? Where is it located? Sue
Muriel, Have you found any of Heman Smith's family in your search of Clay and Vigo County? Remember, I have his Bible. Mary Gardner
A large number of emails have been posted recently with the subject line: Re: Savannah Atkinson. However, they have not been about Savannah. they have been about Smiths, McBrides, etc. PLEASE make proper use of the subject line, so we don't miss something important. If your message is about Smith, put that in the subject line. Thank you
