She married CHARLES ALTON HILL 1909, son of ALTON HILL and EMILY GOODYEAR. He was born January 1, 1883, and died February 17, 1942 in Brazil, Clay Co., Indiana. Notes for HARRIET 'HATTIE' MAE GARRISON: This comes from Edith Fisher, Brazil, Indiana, a granddaughter: Rebecca Ann Hartley Garrison, wife of James M. Garrison, died at the age of 87 years, 7 months and 19 days. Rebecca was born at Harristown, Indiana a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Tillman Hartley, who were early residents of Brazil Indiana. Mrs. Garrison had resided in theis city since 1876 and was well known to older citizens. Her late husband operated a shoe making shop in the city for many years and served Brazilians with custom made shoes before the day of the manufactured products. She is survived by three daughters and two sons. Rebecca died on Saturday morning at Mazo's home where she had lived most of the time with Bill, Mazo and Virginia. They lived next door to the Hill's. Her grave is next to Grandpa James Garrison and I'm sure Aunt Hattie and Uncle Charles bought the headstones for them. I always thought Aunt Hattie was extra special and when I was about six, she said I needed a middle name so she gave me "Mae" which was her middle name. When my father, Charles Garrison, age 31 years, was killed on the railroad, there were three children: Mazie, 7; Ross 4; and Edith, 2 1/2; Mazie and Ross came to grandma and Aunt Ollie and Ora DeBruler took me to raise from then on. Ollie was mama' and Ora was 'papa'. They were good ones, too. They raised my two boys, also, Ben and Rex. Notes for CHARLES ALTON HILL: [Our Family2.FBK.FBK.FTW2.FTW] Charles A. Hill Charles A. Hill, who resided on state road 340 west of city, general manager of the Brazil Clay Company in charge of production, died about 10 o'clock this morning at the Clay County Hospital after a short illness, aged 59 years. Mr. Hill was stricken about ten days ago by an attack of pneumonia. Later his condition became critical when double pneumonia developed and he was removed to the hospital eight days ago. Mr. Hill had been in failing health for the past two years but was able to continue his duties at the clay plant until his last illness. He was born at Arcade, NY, a son of Alton and Emma Hill. Just 36 years ago, Mr. Hill came to Brazil to accept the position of burner at the plant and in 1916 was promoted superintendent. For some time past he has been general manager in charge of production. Mr. Hill was regarded as a highly successful clay official. During his connection with the company, the plant was greatly expanded into one of the largest brick plants in the state. He was a member of the Catholic Church, was an excellent citizen and was highly thought of both by officials and employees of the company. Mr. Hill is survived by the widow, Mrs. Harriet M. Hill; two daughters, Miss Emma Catherine Hill of Indianapolis; Mrs. Samuel L. Randall, west of the city; two sons, William A. Hill, a soldier at Camp Barkley, Abilene, TX (where Father was within days of graduation from Officer Candidate School]; and Charles G. Hill, of Indianapolis; also three grandchildren, a brother and sister, William J. Hill and Mrs. Mable Havens of Rochester, NY. The body was taken to Miller and Sons' Funeral Home where it will be pending funeral arrangements. Copied/edited from the Charles Hill obituary published in the Brazil Daily Times, February 17, 1942. 3. I did get to the 1920 census. (By the way, I tried to subscribe to ancestry and at the time they told me it wouldn't work with Windows XP and sent my money back--do you use XP?) Jennie was not there in 1880. She must have married by then. She may have married in Sullivan or Vigo County. I did not know about the CCGS online index. Tell me more, as I have other families there. I have to cut my grass. I'll send you my census readings later. Thanks again. Judy

    3. Thanks to you, I got a great start on the Stewart descendants. I shouldn't have looked at cemeteries first because I didn't really know enough names. I checked the WPA for Clay County--I got births and marriages but they had the nerve to close the library before I could check the deaths or obits. Could you please check for the following deaths in Clay County? James Stewart b 1830 Jean or Janet or Jennet or Jennie Stewart b about the same time Janet Stewart b 1851 Archibald Stewart b 1863 Robert Stewart b 1866 William Stewart b 1867 Emma B Stewart b1869 James Stewart b 1888 Stella Stewart b 1873 Agnes Stewart b 1891 Agnes Huber b 1891 George S Stewart b 1893 Kate Cheek b 1882 Kate Yocum Frank Stewart b 1894 Margaret Stewart b 1895 (could you also check for her marriage?) Bridget, Annie, or Martha Stewart b 1861 Catherine Wimsey b 1827 I could not find this family in th 1870 Indiana census, although the birth dates of the children indicate they should have been here at that time. Archie Stewart may have died in Sullivan Co. Do you have that WPA? I could not find William Stewart after the 1880 census. Thanks for your help. I have to leave for Denver on Wednesday--how frustrating to hit upon all this right now! Judy

    3. Thank you. I keep hearing about Center Point's library. I'll get there one of these days. I have other branches of the family in Clay County, also, and I'd like to get everything organized before I go. So many people don't know the library is over there. The Family Files there have a wealth of information in them. You could also leave copies of whatever you have that might lead another researcher to contact you. Just be sure your papers are marked with your name, address and email address. 3. I think they also had a daughter Janet. Could you check for marriages for her? I also have the name Jean MacArthur instead of Jenny McCarty. Family says her name was Jenny McCarty. I suppose it could be the same person.

    3. Thanks--it probably will. I'm just starting to look for him--the rest of his family stayed in Vigo and Sullivan Counties. I would really like to find his descendants--it's one of two unknown branches of the family--the other being near Vancouver and I have someone helping me with that. I guess the next thing would be to look at Clay Co births--I'm not sure what VCPL has for Clay Co--and perhaps at the county histories and the census. I was hoping someone in the family might be on the Clay list. Would you conclude that James married the same woman twice?
