Doris and Karen, Thank you. I walked that cemetery before I found the list of tombstones at the Library. There are several Edmonson stones in it. It is a very old graveyard. Mary
Regarding the Boor Family of Clay Co. and then Monmouth, Kansas which is Crawford Co. Ks. Looks almost like your family? John Boor wife Sarah had a son Elijah Boor b. 1836 who married Sarah Rector. They had 13 Boor children. It looks like all the children were born in Vigo Co. In and married and died in Girard, Ks which I think is Neosha Co. Ks. Write to me at [email protected]
Oak Grove Cemetery is Located just north of Jasonville, In on the Greene County, Clay County Line. If you take Meridan Street North at the stop light in Jasonville, it is just a couple of miles up on the left hand side. I just visited it and it is in good shape ----- Original Message ----- From: [email protected] Sent: Tuesday, October 01, 2002 11:07 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [INCLAY] Location of Oak Grove Cemetery. Hello Doris and Karen, Thank you. I walked that cemetery before I learned it had been copied and was recorded at the CCGS library. You are right, it is very old, but looked good the last time I visited the Keller's. I didn't find a connection to my group of folks but there are several Edmondson stones there. Many others too. Mary
Hi Mary, I'm going to put my two cents of info in since Jasonville is quite near. The street (road) you are talking about is Meridian Street in town. The restaurant is Sharon's Kounty Kitchen. My aunt lived just a few blocks from the cemetery. It is very old. If it the same one, I think the locals used to refer to it as the German Cemetery. Not certain of this. Karen and I have another commit on the tenth, so will not be at the upcoming C.C.G. meeting. Doris Louise Neal, in Lewis Township, Clay County, IN
Great. I know very little about the BOOR's. I know that my g-g-g grandfather, John CARTER, married a Mary Jane BOOR. I also have seen a Will extract from the same area as John CARTER lived that indicates her Father may have been John BOOR and mother Sarah (Miller). I'm assuming this based on a correct aged Mary Jane mentioned in the extract. The extract also mentions siblings; Elijah, Elizabeth, Uriah, John, Abraham, Delila. I'm not sure what I should ask for since I don't want to be too much of a pest; but, lets try this to start; Does your information show any of the above BOORs moving to either Wilson or Neosho Counties in KS? The City of Chanute is in Neosho Co., and is where John and Mary Jane settled and are buried. My info indicates that John and Mary Jane were in nearby Wilson Co. for a couple of years prior to moving to Chanute. The time frame was abt. 1870 to 1872. I'm assuming the BOORs would have moved to the same area, and that may be an incorrect assumption, but its a start. If the same places and names show up, then I'd be anxious to obtain more details about the BOORs. I'm going to be in/around Clay Co., IN on the 24 th and 25th of this month. Coming in from Oregon, via KS. Thank you, Wayne Rickert [email protected] wrote: > I have a lot of BOOR information from Staunton, Clay Co. I don't know the numbers of the roads or names of the streets, but I can tell you how to find Oak Grove Cemetery. If you are in Jasonville on St. Rd 48 go to the stop light where Sharon's Cafe is located. Turn to the North. It is a couple miles north on the left. If you see 2 or 3 mobile homes, it is next to the last one. Mary Keller has a list of the tombstones in the cemetery, and she lives in the trailer next to it. The other option is to write the Clay County Genealogical Society and have a search of the records there. It will cost $10 paid in advance to have the volunteers do a search for you. Mary
<Joanna Serrin b.1810 N.Y. m.2nd James Armstrong in 1837 Vigo Co.and m.3rd.John Hendrix in 1850 Clay Co.She d. ? in Clay Co.Her children were Thomas H.,James S.,John R.> PINHOOK to Brazil, by Nell Decker Hubbard on Pg 26, says that John Hendrix married Johanna Armstrong on Apr. 10, 1850. She died at Terre Haute, IN Aug 11, 1882. The book doesn't say so, but I believe she is buried near the front of Highland Lawn Cemetery in Terre Haute. There were no children from that marriage. John Hendrix Sr. was my ancestor. His first wife Martha B. Day was my ggg grandmother. John Hendrix Jr, Lucy Hendrix Brownlee, Clara Brownlee Smith, Edith Smith Orman and me, Mary Orman Gardner is my direct line. There are some newspaper clippings on some of the France family in the Mines and Miners Book at CCGS library in Center Point. Mary Gardner Decatur, GA
