Norma, He isn't in the Index. Why not write a story about him and send it to the Library? If you have a date for his death, there is probably an article in the Brazil Times at the Brazil Library. CCGS Library has some Brazil Papers on Microfilm, but a reader/ printer for microfilm is badly needed! A fund has been started but it will take a long time to raise the $8000 needed to purchase one. In the meantime, one of the Volunteers will go to Brazil and make the search. Mary
The only reference in the Index is Mrs. Claude McCullough. I should tell you, my Index is not current! I am going to Indiana this week and I hope to bring it up to date then. Mary
The people at the Court House don't have time to do Genealogy searches so they are referred to the library where the Volunteers do that work. The Genealogy Society has an excellent Library and staff who will make the trip to the Court House to get the copies that are requested. Again, they charge $10 to obtain a record for you. The Library is located in downtown Center Point on Main Street and is open Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday 1:00 to 4:00 PM. If you live within driving distance, this is a trip well worth making to do Clay County Research. Mary Mary
The CCGS Library is staffed entirely by Volunteers. They charge $10 per hour, payable in advance for making a search of their records. If you email [email protected], they can tell you exactly how much money you need to send for a search. They are on line at www.ccgsilib.org. Mail queries to PO Box 56 Center Point, IN 47840. There are no county birth, death, or marriage records available for the time frame you mentioned. The cemeteries in Clay County have been walked and the marked graves inscriptions copied. If he has a stone they could find a date from his stone. Mary
<PRE>The Notebook is located with the other Clay County Books.
There is one J.F. Moody in the Index. No Bricker. Mary

Story was that he died from injuries due to a mine accident. A sliver of the ceiling came loose and fell on him and then a huge piece of ceiling came down and crushed him, it fell on his lower body. Thank you Norma Ooley Herman
I am not sure just how early the dates started! I have been putting clippings of obits and any other stories I can get my hands on in the Notebook. The Volunteers save anything they find as they work to my file. There is an index that is being made of the men and their survivors. We are using pictures, news articles, clippings from books, personal stories, letters, and lists of miners when found. Mary
Hello, Mary - I was wondering if you'd check the index for my GF and G GF who were both miners in Clay County? If they are listed, I'll write the library and get the info. John (Jocco) R. McCullough b 5-5-1871 Russell T. McCullough b 7-1894 Thanks - Alan McCullough
Can we get death, birth, marriage certificates from you or must we go to the cemeteries or the city halls? I know that Abraham and Sarah Stark are buried in Clay County just don't know where to go. Thanks, Kaye
I have two questions: Is the Clay Co., Ind. Gen. Soc. online, and if so, where? My ancestor, David J. STALLCOP, died in 1849 at Van Buren Twp., Clay Co., Ind. How can I find out details of his death, the exact date, and where he was buried? Also, obits? Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Suzie in Shelton, Washington
In the Mines and Miners book, does it mention either Bricker or Moody? Have been looking for more info on my great grandfather Cary Moody and his wife, Susanna Bricker. Have been in CenterPoint to do research, but didn't know of this book. thanks, Marilyn Brown, [email protected]
Hi Mary, How far back do the dates go for the book you mention? Im looking for info on my grandfather, but he didn't die in a coal mine, he worked for the UMW? Thanks Dianne

I am always looking for items to add to it. If there isn't an obit or story already posted in the book for your miner, I would like to have your addition of the miner and the surrounding facts as you know them. Please include your name and address. Send it to CCGSI PO Box 56 Center Point, IN 47840. This is an important subject in Clay and the surrounding counties. If you want to contact the Library about a search, the address is [email protected] I checked my Index and there is nothing listed under Thomas Jones now in the book.

My g.g.grandfather was William F. Jones from Clay County. For a short time he was married to Martha J. Crabb. Their daughter, Eliza Jones Chapman Duddy, my great grandmother had a son called Frank Chapman (James F. Chapman). Her dad I believe was a miner. Thanks for your help. Randy C. Chapman

James Petty married Elizabeth Stallcop, whose parents were David J. Stallcop and Elizabeth Elson. I have David's ancestry, and some of his wife's. Have you discovered in your research when and where David and his wife Elizabeth died? I understand David died in 1849, Clay Co., Indiana, and his wife died aft 1860. I believe one of their daughters is Sarepta, who is my ancestor. Thanks, Suzie
