For Hoosiers who research in Indiana, please consider acting on this opportunity to increase our access to public records and to expand on a patron-friendly atmosphere that exists at the Indiana State Archives. For several years Dr Alan January, State Archivist, has been Co-Director on the Indiana Commission on Public Records (ICPR) with Connie Hume and Judge John Newman. The ICPR is the agency which creates and/or distributes state forms and documents. The State Archives has been part of this agency for a number of years. Governor-Elect Mitch Daniels will select his candidate for ICPR Director. As a long-time volunteer at the State Archives, I feel comfortable suggesting to you that you consider an email to Governor-Elect Mitch Daniel's website on behalf of Alan January's candidacy. That website is: http:///www.mygovmitch.con/nominate.asp Besides including your personal information, you will need to include the following: Dr Alan January 5638 N Delaware St Indianapolis IN 46220-3018 317-253-4071 ajanx2@excite.com Under Dr. January's leadership the volunteer program has grown from a handful to more than 40 volunteers working to make Indiana records available to Hoosier researchers. Several databases have been made available on-line, and I believe several more would be on-line quickly under Dr January's leadership. Researchers could request copies of documents the existence of which is currently unknown to them. The State Archives has vast collections to pique the interest of many. I sincerely believe much progress would be made if Dr January were Director of the ICPR In a day when access to many vital records is being legislated away, let's take a positive step toward disclosure of public records to which we can have access. Terre Haute Star TERRE HAUTE, IND., MONDAY, FEBRUARY 23, 1925 Page 1 IN MEMORIAM JOHN NEAL. John Neal, loader, 34 years old, is survived by wife and 1-year-old child. Funeral services will be held at 10 o'clock Tuesday morning. Burial in the Littlejohn cemetery at Coalmont. ----------------------
Hello. Thank you for responding to my query. I show, from the 1900 census, that a daughter, Ida, was born in May 1882. Now that I know where my maternal G/parents are buried, I'll get over there this summer and photo the tombstones. I just started looking into my ancestry last summer. It's been fun, yet overwhelming - the edges of the puzzle never really fit perfectly. Thank you again, Harry "Learn from yesterday, live for today, hope for tomorrow." --- Albert Einstein

Genealogical Society Library in Center Point. Yesterday I did a quick search on William S Crank and Lydia Bryant. Both are buried in Cottage Hill Cemetery just west of Brazil. William was b. 25 Mar 1836 and d 28 Jul 1914. Lydia was b. 5 Nov 1837 and d. 3 May 1909 I did not find them in our marriage index. I found two births to this couple in our index. I think there has been a mistake in the transcribing of the birth information. Here is the listing that I found. A female born 12 June 1882 listed in Bk 1 pg 4. The second listing is: a female born 12 June 1882 in Bk 1 pg 16. Obviously, there must be an error. This would have to be checked at the Court House in Brazil.
