Be sure to use a correct address for the Library. I left out a letter you will need to contact them. _research@ccgsilib.com_ (mailto:research@ccgsilib.com) is the correct address. I have heard the name Cheeseman all my life! I don't know if we had a connection or not! My Mother is now deceased and would surely know them. Maybe they were related to the Higgins or Edwards family? Mary

Not sure, but many of the Indiana marriage applications that I have from 1910 on definitely show this. But I think that information is also in older records - sometimes it shows up as supplemental marriage record info from the WPA indexes from 1880-1920. Not sure if it was available for every county. Do you have access to Ancestry.com/Ancestry Plus at your local public library? Indiana marriages 1880-1920 are on it with varying amounts of info. Much depends on the date you are interested in. ----- Original Message ----- From: "inthepastlane" <inthepastlane@bellsouth.net> To: <INCLAY-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, January 11, 2005 4:31 PM Subject: [INCLAY] Marriage Certificates in Clay Co., IN > Does anyone know at what point the names of the parents of a bride and groom would have been required information on a marriage certificate in Clay County? > > Thank-you in advance for your help! > > > ==== INCLAY Mailing List ==== > > > > > > -- > No virus found in this incoming message. > Checked by AVG Anti-Virus. > Version: 7.0.300 / Virus Database: 265.6.10 - Release Date: 1/10/2005 > -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Karla, The 1900 census has Joseph and Lucinda in Lewis Twp, Clay Cnty, Roll T623-363, Pg 1b, ED 13: Drake, Joseph Hd Oct 1862 37 Md 10 IN OH Unk Lucinda A Wife Mar 1875 25 Md 10 0 chil IN IN IN Also of note, the WPA marriage index shows: Joseph Drake to Eva Billings Mar 28, 1882 Clay 5, 4? Joseph Drake to Lucinda A Bemis Jul 18, 1889 Clay 7, 32 AND Joseph Drake to Lucinda Bemis Mar 29, 1895 Sullivan 10, 515 I can't find them in the 1910 census There is a marriage of Lillie Drake to C D Trueblood Jan 4, 1900 in Sullivan Cnty; 11; 365 I checked them in the 1900 census and the age doesn't fit There is also a Lilly B Drake, 19, to David Everly Fe 7, 1884; Sullivan 8,50 but it shows her father as David though the age fits. To answer your question about marriage applications; and I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong, Indiana did not require the application until 1880 or 1882. The requirement was not well complied with until late 1890s and early 1900s so parental information is very sketchy until then. Hope this helps, Sharon (McCoskey) Collins Turner

Karla - Your message re DRAKE didn't state what sources you had checked so I did a quick lookup on geneology site to which I suscribe with the info provided. Don't know if this data will be of any use but these are the results: 1)1880 census - Daniel is listed as 56 years old, this would make estimated birth year about 1824, a little later than you posted. His father was born in England. occupation- farmer 2) Marriage license for Joseph Drake and Eva Billings 28 March 1882, Clay County, IN (Bk 5, pg 427) 3) Marriage license for Joseph Drake and Lucinda A. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/xh.2ADE/2010.1 Message Board Post: Betty, After a little research, I've found the couple you are searching for and have a suggestion. Waldolene Brashier (notice spelling) was born 19 May 1914 and died in July 1987. Last residence was indeed Brazil, Clay County. Malcolm B Brashier, b. Jan 15, 1914 and died Nov 1976. There is an obit for Malcolm in the Terre Haute Tribune, published Dec 1, 1976; page 2. He was 62 when he died. A copy of the obits for this couple may give you a clue as to the name/whereabouts of the daughter. My guess is you would get more from the mothers if there is one. The Vigo County Library could probably help you with that too. obits@vigo.lib.in.us Give them the name and issue information above and they can copy Malcolm's for you and if you give them Waldolene's name and July 1987, they will be above to tell you if there is an obit for her. The funeral home handling Waldolene's burial may have information on the daughter. Though you may run into privacy issues for something this recent. Another thought, Malcolm had several siblings; maybe one of them is still living in the area. Malcolm is shown in the 1930 Sullivan County census with his parents and siblings, Nelson, Alvan, Margaret, Nina, and Nellie; all younger than Malcolm, though if living, would range from 80-91 years old. Just some thoughts to help you, Sharon who do some leg work for you but I'm in South Dakota
