    3. I too shared a file with someone once and then found it posted on their family site. Some of the information was personal and should never have been posted. Needless to say I was very upset with this. So I am very careful about what I share now. I think general information found or given to help possibly point someone in the right direction or jump start a brick in a wall is ok. I wouldn't recomend anyone adding information to any of their lines without verifying first. 1. Posting to List
    2. Don Ott
    3. My dream would be that I could give my entire data base to 100 people and they would all post it somewhere for public consumption. That would mean that more people could see it and eventually I would get a lot more added to what I already have. I really don't care who takes credit for it just get it out there so others can add to their data bases and share what information they have. I guess if you plan to write a book and copy write it that might be different. I am only trying to expand what I know about my own family, I can't imagine hiding it under a bushel. If you do not post on the list how can folks see the names you are interested in and help with your research. The lists, and I work on about 20, are only beneficial to everyone if almost everything is posted back through the list. Lists will not take attachments so that has to be an exception. Lists that post back through the open list create a tremendous amount in traffic, and if you aren't interested in a name, just delete that message. There will be others that will find something in the message and respond. This list has been dead for years, recent activity has increased, but I still just see folks asking for information and mainly wanting someone to respond to them privately. Lets make this list live and help everyone. Don

    2. What is wrong with sharing information. I have gained lots of great information on people sharing. It is with sharing that i have been able to further my lines and find others that I did not know.

    2. Bart, The Biography that was sent to the individual by Alan, would take a great deal of time to type in order place on line. We can not send attachments at this site! I love to see the replies that are posted on line. We all do, but sometimes the most important thing we can do, is to send copies of the original in an attachment. Mary

    1. Re: [INCLAY] Side conversations...
    2. The reverse side of your proposal, Bart is that a lot of extraneous information can be put on, cluttering up the message board. I e-mailed two complete pages of county history to a lister on this message board. I saw no reason to take up space and time from others in pasting them on this medium. It was information specifically of interest to the lister and had a low probability of being of interest to anyone else. The source of the information is on the web - so if anyone else wanted it, they could look it up. The lister was unaware of the existence of this resource - so I helped out. Conservation of space in a universal medium (i.e. this Message Board) should always be a consideration in sending out information. Alan McCullough

    2. Bart Emanuel
    3. Hi Folks, I'd just like to throw my 2 cents in about side conversations. Isee a lot (not just on this board) of cases where two or more people start exchanging information, and then continue in email outside the group. One of the benefits of having a medium like this is that messages persist, and someone can search them at a later time and find information they are looking for. But they can't find it if it hasn't been written here! Also, how many times have you been reading someone's exchange and found a relative that might be mentioned but not necessarily as the primary subject of the discussion ("chance" findings...) So my request is if at all possible, don't take your conversation offline. I can always ignore the threads I'm not interested in... but may learn something from them anyway. Thanks, Bart Emanuel Bart Emanuel

It would be great to see if you guys have any info on the families that I do not, I could see if I had anything on John Georg and Magdalena Schepper and children that you didn't. I don't have any photos though - don't seem to have photos that old on this side of the family. I live in Cincinnati, but was born in Terre Haute so I come back to do research in Clay and Vigo County quite often. Please do contact me. Thank you.
