Told of having to go through the cane breaks(bamboo) which were a problem. Alva worked in railroad car repair shop (Logansport) as a member of the "rip team" fixing defective railroad cars. Road a bike to work except in bad weather when walked. He worked 6 days a week, 12 hours a day.
