I am trying to locate a birth certificate of a Ruth Sturgeon born December 2, 1847 on a farm near Lake Cicott in Cass County. Her father was Taylor Sturgeon and her mother was Eunice - last name unknown. According to the Cass County Circuit Court Clerk they have no records of birth prior to 1882. Any suggestions where I might try next? Thanks, in advance. Ed Crabtree - KCMO EWCRABTREE@prodigy.net
Re: Lookups at the Historical Society? They have limited hours of operations because it is a volunteer-staffed operation, except for the director, so I would think requests may take some time to get. I didn't ask about it because I was there in person. Sorry, I can't tell you more than that. I know they need donations of $$ to keep the Society viable, so sending a check with your request might be helpful!
For those of you interested in cemetery restoration, here is an opportunity to develop your skills and help preserve history. Saturday August 19, we will be meeting from at Sprinkle cemetery located at 1175 S 800 E; Jackson Twp., Cass County, Indiana - about 1 1/2 miles north and 1 1/2 miles west of Galveston. We plan to work from 8 a.m. - ?. Come dressed to work, bring shovels, bring a friend, and bring some energy. If you are hesitant to work on the gravestones, there is also an small iron fence that needs to be painted. I have the paint and brush for that and other supplies for cleaning and repair, so bring yourself and a friend. Is anyone on this list researching ROGERS/MCCOY/JEWELL surnames? I am also researching any connections to the ESKEW/CROSSON/BONHAM/FISHELL surnames. These were located in the GREENE/SULLIVAN/CLAY and possibly CASS or PUTNAM county areas in the late 1800's and early 1900's. If there is anyone else researching any of the names pls contact me at: anatet@claynet.com. Thank you, Sheri Searching for: TETIDRICK/POTTS/HARNESS/TARPLEY, SWEETEN/MOORE/CORDELL, PIGG/VICE/GOFF/GARDNER/LEMMON/OLIVER/HART/MORGAN/OWENS, AKERS/MCCOY/MCCREARY/ROGERS/JEWELL and any other associated links :))
I, too, am interested in the above subject. I do not have information for Paul, but this is an attempt to regain information I received within the last 2 weeks and inadvertently lost. One of the emails I received on the above subject listed names of organizations and addresses in the Cass County area to contact for information on railroad employees during the late 1800's and 1900's. I would appreciate someone forwarding me that email if they still have it. Thank you. Hi, I looking for directories in Logansport around 1862-1908. I did find a few on the Internet, but not really the years I wanted. telephone directories would be fine too. Does your Cass County Library or Genealogy Society, Would have these books. The names I'm looking for is Wendell Miller and John Miller and Wendell's wife Caroline Miller. Charlotte

Natalie and Charlotte, have tried in the past to find information but without success. If you do find something please put it on the mailing list. My notes for my grandfather Alva Demoine Kinsey (1862-1922) is as follows, not much help. Paul Kinsey >From my father Raymond George Kinsey "When Alva's mother died, Alva(11 yrs. old) and his brother, Marshall (8 yrs. old) went to live with the Hann's. Eventually he married their daughter, Ida Mae. Before he was married, Alva and his brother went to Missouri to build railroad tracks. Told of having to go through the cane breaks(bamboo) which were a problem. Alva worked in railroad car repair shop (Logansport) as a member of the "rip team" fixing defective railroad cars. Road a bike to work except in bad weather when walked. He worked 6 days a week, 12 hours a day. The Kline book was done by Vickie Bridge as her thesis for a class. When she finished it turned out so well that she had some people interested in purchasing it. A friend and I went in together and bought one. But she donated several copies to the local libraries, Royal Center and Winamac at least. She lists maps for the different sections showing where everyone is buried and then she lists each person and gives the information listed on the Monument. There are 4 Berkshire's listed. Anna G. 1877 - 1878, Emeline 1870 - 1871, James T. 1868 - 1869 , and Milton O. 1889(D) all children of W.H. and S.E. Berkshire. Hi, I just joined this list so I could share some information with all of you. I don't have a Logan line, but I fell heir to a great deal of Logan data. In 1965, I copied inscriptions at Concordia Cemetery here in El Paso, Texas. Yesterday, as I am preparing them for my web site, a dear friend gave me additional material regarding Maj. Thomas Logan and his descendants. The Maj. was from Logansport, Ind. and today I found his marriage record on the Cass County Web Page. If any of you are interested in these people, please go to my web page--they were an interesting group. Hope someone can use this material Jan Parsons Armstrong El Paso, Texas JArmstr904@aol.com http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~janarmstrong
