Dan, one thing leads to another. I am a Kinsey and Damm researcher, have Dorothy Jean Cotner b about 1925 married to Bookwalter in my file. Also have several Sturgeons, James E married to Cora Starr b. about 1880. They had three children: Lawrence (m to Wilma Hawkins), Leah, and Lee (m. Helen Moore). Lawrence and Wilma have a daughter Betty Marie. Don't have dates or locations but think Jay County. Don't know if any of this ties or not. Hi! I know that each state (and county) provides different info, but I haven't found any differences in "certified" death certificates vs non-certified types (except that I usually have to pay more $$ for the "certified" copy). I have collected hundreds of death certificates, obits, and death notices on my family members that I am researching. Any good genealogist will tell you NOT to put too much faith into info provided on a death certificate. The problem with death certificates, obits, etc. is that info is provided by a "relative" or in a lot of cases, a hospital employee or nursing home official. Other than the cause of death (provided by the physician) and the place of burial, a lot of info is not very reliable. For example: Info for my great-grandfather's DC was completed by his oldest son. His date of birth was incorrect, his place of birth was only listed as Denmark and his parents' names were a "?". My uncle didn't even know his father's occupation. I requested funeral records for my great-grandfather, and it included the obituary form for submission to their local newspaper and a copy of the DC, all with the same incorrect info. The obit didn't even list my gr-grandfather's first wife (my great-grandmother, and the MOTHER of the person providing the info!) This is one of the reason's why it is important to gather as MUCH evidence of a fact (birth, death, etc) before accepting it as "final". Thomas Where are the Dean Arthinton Papers? How does one go about researching them? Joanne in Portland, OR
There are copies at the Cass County Historical Society Museum, Fort Wayne Allen Co. Public Library and in the Cass County Recorder's office at the courthouse. I don't know whether they have been filmed by the LDS Church or not. Charlotte The Arthington Papers were written by Rev. Thomas D.Arthington The papers are a collection of items of interest taken from local events, fairs, socials, births, deaths, marriages, also items taken from tax records, local elections and information concerning families in the Logansport and Cass county. The items cover the period 1840 to about 1890 or close to that time frame. Lots of good, worth reading for genealogical research. Hi, Could anyone tell me what is the Dean Arthington Papers of Cass Co. Charlotte
They can be better than nothing....And nothing was what seemed was being found.....At least there might be something to try to verify from some other source....
Angel I agree, be careful, with the death certificate. They are a second source. Charlotte Flock >

Was there anything on the Death record that showed the parents? Might not have been on the certified copy but on the records. Some times all that does not get on a certified copy? In 1920 there would have been and Indiana death records. The form has a place for parents names and I have even seen parents birth location on some.

Hi, There was quite of few of you, that was interested in the informaiton, that I may come up with. I wrote to Rudy Strauch in Logansport. He has written a book on railroads. The Pennsylvania Railroad bought out or leased the railroads in Logansport around 1900. Prior to that, the names of the railroads were, Vandalia, TP&W, C.C., & I. C., Eel River, Wabash, Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, Chicago and St.Louis Railway Co. He mentions that the Roster to these railroads do not exist. The oldest roster he could fiind was 1940. That would not help me. I'm looking for John Miller b. 1831 Pruissa listed on the 1870 census age 39 occupation R R laborer. Living with Wendel Miller and Caroline Grusenmeyer Miller. So I'm now looking for City Directories. So if anyone has a City Directory starting around 1862-1908. I sure could use a look up. Charlotte E. Flock
