I would like to obtain a copy of Brown County Genealogical Society Newsletter, Vol 1, Issue 1, dated Nov 1987. There is an article about the Ralph David Bible I would like to get a copy of. My grandmother, Rosa Thompson's mother was Hester Ann David and Hester Ann's parents were John David and Morning Weddle. Believe this Bible might have some useful information. Could someone please tell me how to get a copy of the above article? Thanks in advance for your help. Ron Robertson Atlantic Beach, FL
Looking for any information on William Sandifer that married Rosa (Rosie) Thompson, Nov 19, 1893 in Brown Co. IN. William's parents may have been Thomas J. Sandifer and Phoebe Ann Poling. William and Rosa had a son, Ira Sandifer born May 4, 1894, in Monroe Co. IN. I have a death certificate for a William Sandifer that died in Brown Co. on April 7, 1895 at age 25. It indicates he was married, but no name given. Rosa next married Pleasant "Sonny" Robertson in Monroe Co., and resided in Unionville, until Sonny's death in 1910 Any help gratly appreciated. I received this from some one looking for information on a John Woods I am forwarding it on to all of the Brown County List for any help if it is our there From: [email protected] Date: Sat, 18 Dec 1999 20:01:22 EST Subject: John Woods To: [email protected] MIME-Version: 1.0 Status: Jeanette, I am searching for a John Woods born abt 1850 in or around Fleming Co., KY. I do not have a name for his wife but his daughter was named Mary V. born abt 1875/78. I believe Mary married a Hess, then John H. Stockdale b: 1856 and in 1920 married a Keene from FL and moved to FL. John H. Stockdale and Mary V. Woods had one daughter, Lorena born in 1900. John H. Stockdale's father was Sanford C. Stockdale, born 1823. Due to the age difference in John H. Stockdale and Mary V. Woods there is a possibilty John H. had children from a first wife. Do you have any info on this family? Margaret
Hello I am new to this list and am researching Kurtz/Kirts/Curts, Troutman, Enlow/Inloe/Enloe and Loesch. I have also started a new mailing list that I hope you will also join. We deal with multiple Counties that people migrated into and out of or through. I invite you to join our list also. It basically covers what is now the Metro Louisville area though we are a relaxed list and will help in any way we can. Post message:[email protected] Subscribe: [email protected] Unsubscribe: [email protected] List owner:[email protected] It is called Floyd County IN, but deals with a much Broader area. Norma Sorry it took so long to get back to you, it is that time of the year. The dates for Ethel Axsom on a 1960's list is b. 10 Aug 1907 d. 10 Jan 1908. This is probably an error. I will check with the Health Office tomorrow and see if I can find any thing. Your Ethel Axsom b. 5 Aug 1908 d. 10 Jan 1909 is surely what it should read. I was at the Burgoon Cemetery today and could not find a stone for Elly Axsom. That name was on a 1978 list of the cemetery as was Charles Axsom, whose stone only gives the Years. Also on that list was Mary Axsom Byers b. 22 Oct 1875 d. 4 Aug 1956. Her name was missed and never put in the data base. I have added her. I will also see what I can find at the Health Office about any Elly Axsom. If you have corrections that should be made to the book, please forward the documentation whenever you are ready. It will be much appreciated and will appear in any future printings. David Foster MCHS
Hello, I am the new State Coordinator for the Indiana Census Project and would like to urge each of you to consider transcribing a Census. I along with about a million other Genealogists would Thank you. Our Project was started by volunteers of The USGenWeb Project, to transcribe all of the US Federal Census' and upload them to the Internet where they will be available in a searchable archive for all, for FREE. We provide our volunteer transcribers with either a database Program, for census years 1850 and 1860, that has been written exclusively for this Project, or a spreadsheet template for all other years. Our programmer is writing updates that will eventually include all other years. For MAC users we have a Coordinator who specializes in MAC's and she will get you the templates you need. At this time we are unable to provide our transcribers with a copy of the census for the county they wish to transcribe. Each of you must obtain your own copy of the census you sign up for. You will be volunteering your time to transcribe and you will be volunteering the acquisition of the census information. This information can be acquired on CD or in book form. Please consider helping this worthwhile project. Best wishes Sandra USGENWEB Census Project Maryland State Coordinator Indiana State Coordinator Traces of the Past http//www.geocities.com/Heartland/Valley/7259

I recently received info from a Monroe County death record for: Ethel Axsom MALE b. 05 Aug 1908 d. 10 Jan 1909 father, James Axsom; mother; ____ Ross. Buried: Yellow Stone Cemetery. I'm sure (almost) Ethel was Ethiel Henry Axsom s\o James Axsom and Emma Ross although County Cemteries of Monroe lists Ethel Axsom with dates of almost exactly 1 year's difference: Ethel Axsom b. 10 Aug 1907 d. 10 Jan 1908. Ethel\Ethiel is buried at Mitchell Cemetery. I can't find a listing for Yellow Stone Cemetery in County Cemeteries of Monroe or the cemetery listing on the Monroe County web page. Is Yellow Stone Cemetery in Brown County? Thanks, nz
I just found an old description of the Mitchell Cemetery. Polk Twp, Section 30, 1/2 mile off Hunters Creek Road & N.E. of o;d town of Yellowstone. Dave Foster
Yellowstone is the general area around the Mitchell Cemetery in south eastern Monroe County. I believe there was a Yellowstone Post Office there at one time. In the spring I will be rechecking the stones in that cemetery. We have a mix-up with the Mitchell Cemetery in Mitchell Indiana due to obits not stating which Mitchell Cemetery a person is being buried in. David W Foster Chairman, Monroe County Historical Society Cemetery Committee.

Hi- I am looking for any BERKHEISERS and their relatives. Several Berkheisers moved to Indiana from Pennsylvania in the early 1800s. Other possible names in the early family are Johannes and Elizabeth Beyer and Johannes and Susanna Miller. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Gregory
Hi Folks, I have several more counties available for adoption if anyone is interested in one. 87 to be exact. If you would care to adopt one please drop me a line and let me know which county and I can direct you to where you go to apply for it, and if you are interested in helping or volunteering lookup services please email me and let me know which county and what resources you might have such as books, etc. I encourage everyone to click on the purple link under IN state contact under my name and then choose the county you have ancestors in and input some family data and place your names on the surnames list, so others see it. Jeanette Richart pointed me to a website: http://www.dlib.indiana.edu/collections/lilly/hohenberger/index.html which has a photograph of the Nashville Jail [THANKS, Jeanette] and the photograph appears to be the same jail. The photo I have is a 5 X 7 image on an 8 X 10 dark dull greenish cardboard back with rounded corners. The border is impressed with: J.E. A.B. Whitaker Nashville IND Unfortunately the image is faded in parts, as if something was spilled on it, but the details of the image are still there. It shows four men standing along the steps, and a man in front of the building with his arm on some sort of cane or farm implement. There are small trees and a rail fence in the background, and part of the fence seems to be incomplete. My reason for asking is that we inherited an old cardboard-backed photograph of a two-story log building, apparently a jail. It was impressed with a photogrpher's name from Nashville, Indiana. It never occured to me that it might still be standing. We inherited the photograph from my father's stepmother's sister. I don't know why she had a photograph of the jail. Thanks for your responses. Are there any Nashville history experts on this list? Was there ever a 2-story wooden jail in nashville? Has anyone ever seen a photograph of one from Nashville or a nearby area?
