    3. Hi everyone! I ordered and received the wonderful book titled History and Families of Brown County, Indiana(1836-1990) . It will make a great wedding anniversary gift for my husband, whose ancestors came from Brown County. While browsing through it, I came across an article written by Cynthia Miller, who shares some of the same ancestors as my husband. Does anyone know Cynthia and how I can get in touch with her. I was so thrilled to read her article and would like to share information with her or her relatives. Any help in this regard would be deeply appreciated!! Best wishes, Janine in Brimfield, Illinois

    2. This interesting piece is excerpted from the Florida Times-Union (Jacksonville) newspaper genealogy column, "Hunting Forebears," by Beth Gay Here's a lot to think about. Next time you're feeling unimportant and small, think about how it took two people -- your parents - to get you here. Each of your parents has two parents, so that in the generation just prior to that of your mother and father, there were four people who helped get you on Earth. You are the product of eight great-grandparents, sixteen great-great grandparents, 32 great-great-great grandparents, etc. With every generation you multiply the number by tw0. If you figurd an average of about twenty-five years between each generation, you'll discover that only about 500 years ago, there were 1,048,576 people who contributed to the production of you! (Of course, in just one more generation there were twice that many people who were you direct ancestors. I'm always amazed to realize that it it just 13 generations me to Jamestown, VA, in 1607, and that it is only about 60 generations from us to the time of Christ. (My comment - Think of the odds against YOU being here. If just one of those individuals had died before becoming a parent, jusy ONE! - you wouldn't be here.)

    3. I would like to give a reason for not getting back information. Here is my story. I started to help my parents about a year ago. My father has about 6-8 books full of information, however he has only given my a fraction of this family information. So when I find someone who has our family information. I first try to give them all that I have(very very small amout) and then I send them to my dad, now my dad usually takes awhile to get back, and sometime he totally forgets. I to have had prombles because of my Very very bad memory. I am also a mom of 6 children and this time of the year is harvest time, which leave me with very little time for genealogy. I think we shouldn't jump to any conclusions, we don't know what is really going on in anyone lives. They may have to deal with an family problem or something. Yes I do beleive that there are some who just don't want to share, however we have to forget about the few and look at the fact that so many people do and are will to share. I hope we can drop this subject and get back to the reason why we are all here. I know that being here has helped me alot. I had a person leave a message looking for my Brown family, she wasn't a genealogist, however she was writting a book on the first families of an area of the county which my family was from. But thanks to her I now have alot more information on my Browns. Thanks Peg!!!! So please lets help as much as we can, and have understanding for those who may not be as helpful. I don't want our first timers to get the wrong idea, this is a great group of people here and we need to move forward. Thanks and Happy Hunting to all, Sarah Smith NH

I did not know they were in Brown Co, IN, but it makes sense since they were married just across the line in Johnson Co, IN. I am really related to his wife Elizabeth who was a Poe not a Parks as I have seen in several of these messages. Will trade information.

For some reason, I don't have the place or source written down, probably because at the time I found it, I was only interested in James C. Bishop as part of my Wilcox family. I don't have dates on William Lansing Bishop yet, nor where Eunice is buried, but it's probably one of the Brown Co. cemetaries close to her home. Will search my misc. files to see if I have it. 3. Posted on: Brown County In. Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/In/Brown/733 Surname: Shipley ------------------------- My grandfather was the son of a later "Issac Shipley", whom we believe to have been born in either Jackson Co.,IN or Johnson Co.,IN. His date of birth is also not clearly known. However, this Issac was married three times and fathered 13 children. His last wife was named Mary(and was believed to be partially [one-half]Cherokee),they were my grandfather Pat Shipley's parents. They lived in the middle of nowhere in Brown Co., most if not all of the children of my great-grandfather were born on this farm. My grandfather was born in 1912. For those just starting to search the Shipley line, there is something that you should know that may not be common knowledge, but can be exteremly confusing. It was a tradition for the father named "Issac" to name his son "Jesse", and for the son "Jesse" to name his son "Issac". Also, alot of the Issac's were also known as "Ike", and many of the male children were not given a middle name.(i.e. my grandfather's name was Pat Shipley) There is an old cemetary in Brown County, known as the old Shipley cemetary. It is still accessible, and many of the ancesters are buried there. There is also another cemetary in Brown County where quite a few Shipley's are buried. Both cemetaries are accessible, but good directions are a must to get to the old one. And lastly, there is a book available concerning the geneology of the Shipley clan. I hope that this helps out whomever my be in need. Vernetta Shipley-Scott

    3. Hi, I have a photo of a dwarf that was among my great grandfather's things. No one knows who it is, there is no name on the photo, and you can't even tell if it's a man or a woman. The person is dressed like they lived in Alasaka. The face looks female but I don't know. I could send you a copy of it if you'd like. 2. No, those names are not familiar. My grandmother, Viola Elizabeth Parker, came to Brown County from Ohio in a covered wagon and settled at the foot of Bear Wallow Hill in Wakeup, Indiana. Since your family came from Ohio we might find a connection later.
