Please check out our web site and you will find that one of the 265 Family Studies includes John Freese and family. http://www.rootsweb.com/~inbcgs/ Sarah Clevenger, Treasurer Brown county Genealogical Society Lucy Katz wrote: > > My g-g-grandparents, William and Ellen Sharpless Freese, were married in Coshocton, OH in 1839, and about 1854 they moved to Monroe County, IN, where they remained for the rest of their lives. 2. The start of the 21st Century and the 3rd Millennium Mon, 1/1, 12:00am. Yes, the year 2000 is gone, never to return. What sort of a year was it? A year like all years, filled with those events which alter and illuminate our time... and YOU were there! (See the "Prince Valiant" comic strip in today's paper)> And now, it's January 1, 2001, the first day of a new month, a new year, a new decade, a new century, and a new millenium! That's a heavy load for one day to carry but, as a long trip begins with one step, the furure begins with one day. Remember, Christ loves us, Christ saves us. Happy, Happy... to all. I'm researching Davis from Jackson (location of Freetown), Brown, Bartholomew and Monroe Counties of IN. There are Phegley's here in Jackson Co and in this township (Pershing), which was formed from Salt Creek Twp., I believe. What other info do you have on these two? I have a lost Emily Davis about that time frame, daughter of Joseph Davis b 19 Feb 1800 in NC. His first wife died in NC and he moved with other Davis family to IN. I believe his second wife was Sarah Blakely of Monroe Co., but still trying to confirm this is the correct Joseph Davis.

Subj: [RowanRoots] Message from list owner Date: 12/29/2000 11:21:39 AM Eastern Standard Time From:    [email protected] (John Coates) To:    [email protected] We have had an excellent year on RowanRoots, let us not end it on a sour note. Copyright and fair use are important issues that warrant discussion and debate. However,  RowanRoots is not the place for that discussion. The copyright issue has a long history and there are numerous lists where the topic of copyright and  fair use are discussed in detail by lawyers, authors, researchers and other interested parties. A quick to your favorite search engine  should produce numerous references on the topic. As a RootsWeb list we follow the rules they have put in place. The acceptable use policy states :     POST ONLY MATERIAL YOU DO OWN. When you post to RootsWeb, you must either be the copyright             holder (that basically means you wrote it), have written permission from the copyright holder, or the material must             clearly be in the public domain. http://www.rootsweb.com/rootsweb/aup.html For some practical guidelines please see the reference by Nancy in her earlier post. http://www.rootsweb.com/~bwo/bwocwp.html#rule So please, let's get back to chasing those old Rowan Roots and leave the copyright issue for other lists to tackle. Wishing all a very happy New Year Thank You John Coates RowanRoots-L Owner [email protected]

The Brown County people who lived in the eastern part of the county seemed to go to Columbus more than to Nashville. I've found some information in the Columbus papers in the Indiana State Library. Even found an article about Ben Petro (spelled Petero - old record sometimes spell it that way) who was killed by a train while hauling a wagon load of cabbages and garden truck to Columbus. It says he lived near Gnawbone.

    3. Posted on: Brown County In. Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/In/Brown/880 Surname: ------------------------- Christine, Don't know if you've found your answer by now. You posted your query a long time ago. However, there were four childen - Roy, Clarence, Lonnie, and Ethel. Armelda Lucas was my great-grandfather's sister and I got this information from my grandfather. I also knew Roy Taylor whose wife's name was Ellie. They lived in Indianapolis. I know they had some sons and one of them had a heart attack at a relatively young age. Armelda is buried at Garland Brook Cemetary in Columbus Indiana. She was born in Brown County Indiana in 1866-1869. I found different dates in different sources. You might look in the Marion County records for Roy's family. I found his name as Sea Roy and a birthdate in the 1900 census of August 1891. I'd look for a death certificate or even look in the recorder's office for property records - that may give you a clue to the approximate date of death. The death certificate may give you the next of kin. If I remember, I'll ask my mother if she remembers any of the Taylors who might be living and whom you could contact. Perhaps the 1920 census would be helpful also. It's been several years since I did research and the 1920 wasn't available then.
