From History of Boone County Indiana compiled in 1984 by Boone County Historical Society and Friends: Page 10: "Joaquin Miller, 'The Poet of the Sierras,' who died a number of years ago in California, was once a barefoot boy on the streets of Lebanon. With his mother, he spent the summer of 1841 here visiting relatives. during their stay here, they were the guests of Mrs. Miller's uncle, Michael WITT. At that time Joaquin was about four or five years of age". Page 27: Mrs. Carl Witt is listed as the 1950 past president of the Boone Extension Homemakers. Page 34: Subject: Perry Township Homemakers, organized in 1936. Of the 26 members in 1984, one was MARGARET WITT. Page 69: In reference to the history of St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Lebanon, IN. "...On July 5, 1924, Bishop Alerding, of the Fort Wayne diocese bought of JOSEPH W. WITT, the lovely two story residence at 319 E. South St. (on the second lot west of St. Joseph's Church), as the Mission House for the Redemptorist Fathers and also as the rectory for St. Joseph's Church..." Page 71: SANDY WITT is listed as a member of the Hoosier Heritage Quilt Guild which held its first meeting in August, 1979. Page 161: In discussion of the History of Washington Township mention is made of the 1st officers of the Mechanicsburg Bank included BUREN WITT, cashier. The bank closed on Nov. 15th, 1928. It opened on Jan. 26, 1920. Page 167: Discussion of the Whitestown Celebrations From Red Men's Picnic to Pioneer Days states in part: "...Some of the early promoters were John N. Stark, A.O. Dulin, Clyde O. Laughner, William Witt, B.F. McMakin, Minnice Sorter and others....." Page 178: The subject is the Jack Pence Alexander Family. "Jack Pence Alexander (born Hammond, Indiana,1922) married Alada Rose Witt (born Lebanon, Indiana,1923) in 1941......Alda is the daughter of Tressie Mc Claine and the late James Forest Witt. James (Jim) was a local businessman, well noted for his humor. Tressie, a creative artist and seamstress, is a business partner in the Sky-Vue Drive-In Theatre. Alada has one living sister, Helen Joan.....For forty four years Alada taught dancing (ballroom, ballet, Polynesian and tap). She was a faculty member of the Chicago National Association of Dance Masters. After her retirement from dancing, Alada began a small School of Charm and served as a free-lance model....." More info included on the Alexander family members. Page 191: Subject is the John Beck family. It reads in part ...."John and Judith had thirteen children....William m. Sarah Witt..." There are six large paragraphs on the John Beck family. There is also info on Charles Ray Witte, Debra Lynn Witte, Owen Carroll Witte, and Walter Mathias Witte.
