Hi Pam, There was also a Mary Byroad burried in Cedar Hill Cemetery. My GGGGrandmother Mary Byroad died in Lebanon, Boone County, Indiana sometime between 1880-1890. We cannot find out any information on her . Her husband, My GGGGrandfather John (Unckle Jackey) was burried in Oak Hill Cemetery, but there is no mention of her being burried there. I am thinking that the Mary Byroad burried in Cedar Hill might be her. Is there any way of finding out? I noticed you did not have her listed in the list of burrials in Cedar Hill. There were also 2 Byroad babies, My GAunt Grace, age 3 years and GUncle Edward abt 1 mo. both died in 1883 and I have found no information on where they are burried. Their parents were My GGrandparents Thomas Neal and Susan Ullery Byroad. Is there any way of finding this out? I've added information for some people on the Cedar Hill site http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~paddock/Boone/listing.htm and added a page for Veterans http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~paddock/Boone/veterans_of_war.htm Please remember these are not my relatives, so everything added is either from your contributions or my skimpy research on the web. Additions and corrections are more than welcome. If anyone has an index to the 1860 census - please let me know. If anyone has access to local 1861-1865 newspapers it would be a tremendous asset for identifying Civil War soldiers from Lebanon - buried at Cedar Hill or not. There are some newspapers listed at the state library. Is anyone familiar with them? Pam Arnold

List I've added a web page for Cedar Hill Cemetery, Lebanon, Boone County on my freepages at Rootsweb. The introduction is at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~paddock/Boone/cedar_hill_cemetery.h tm (that's all one address) and the listing is at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~paddock/Boone/listing.htm We plan to add pages for each person listed or as many as we can track down. The stone says there are 500 people, the list is much shorter. If you know anything about these people, or know of others not on the list, please let me know OFF the list, and I will add the information. ALSO I typed up the 1830 census for Boone county and it is now on-line: ftp://ftp.us-census.org/pub/usgenweb/census/in/boone/1830/ Pam Arnold

Mrs. Thomas E. Merritt Chr. James Hill Memorial Park Comm. Mrs. Victor S. Crane Chr Genealogical Comm. Records from Cedar Hill Cemetery, Lebanon, Boone county, Indiana September 1, 1953 Copied and compiled by the ladies of the James Hill Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Inasmuch as there had been no burials in the Cedar Hill Cemetery for over 60 years, the City Council of Lebanon passed a resolution allowing said Cemetery to be converted into a Memorial Park, such park to have the name of the local D.A.R. Chapter Vis: James Hill Memorial Park. General James Hill for whom the Chapter is named is buried under a granite slab of major proportions and will constitute the central portion of the James Hill Memorial Park. A brief history of James Hill follows: "James Hill was born in Virginia, near Danville, Dec. --, 1745; he was captured by Indians when he was seven years of age; he escaped from them when he was twenty, as a captive of the Indians he suffered all the indignities which could be heaped upon him as a prisoner. He made his way to Lexington, Kentucky after his escape and in time was married to Clark." He was called to fight for his country in 1776; He was a true patriot. The granite marker mentioned is that placed by the City Fathers to commemorate his memory; he died in 1854 at the age of one hundred and nine years. The unveiling of his marker was in charge of the Rich Mountain Post 42 G.A. R. and the Women's Relief Corps L Company of Indiana Guards. He died in Lebanon in the home of a great grandson, Reverend William H. Williams. Quotes from the Lebanon Reporter November 21, 194-- "Hill the Soldier, the Patriot and Officer marking with significant tread to contend for his country's justification. He came to the end of existence just seven years before the Civil War his Historical decade almost meeting the chapters of another rebellion. As the old soldier went down the last bend of his sunset trail he proudly stated "I LOVE MY COUNTRY"
Does anyone know if there was a ROBERT C and ELIZABETH ALEXANDER buried in Oak Hill Cemetery?
A must read article for anyone interested in cemeteries, now see what can be done??? It is a shame that there was not the same interest before Cedar Hill was destroyed??????????? Township acquires 19th century cemetery. Thought this story might be good news about the future of other cemeteries. Amazing what happens when everybody wants the same thing ! http://www.timessentinel.com/cgi-bin/LiveIQue.acgi$rec=10577?zt_story
