    1. [INBOONE-L] Sullivan Museum/Death lookup
    2. Larry Slavens
    3. Speaking of the Sullivan Museum, what do they charge to look up an obituary in their files? I was thinking that used to be on the web but I couldn't it this morning. And I don't have free long distance calling. ;-) And/or does the County Health Department offer photocopied death records for less cost than the certified copies? Over in Hendricks County I could pay $6 for a certified copy, or photocopy the book for free. Larry (trying to determine if Mary Gardner, died Feb. 3, 1900 (book R17 p. 8), was my ggggrandmother, the widow of Miles Gardner.)

    1. Re: [INBOONE-L] Searching for BOLLINGER Mary
    2. I would also suggest you call Mary Ann Doyle at the P.H. Sullivan Museum in Zionsville at 873-4900. They have extensive obituary files transcribed from 19th century issues of old Boone Co. newspapers including the Lebanon issues. They also have 5x8 index card files on most of the early Boone Co. residents. I think you will find her quite helpful.

    1. [INBOONE-L] Brockway
    2. Jerry L. Clark
    3. Dear list, I'm new to your list and need some help. here is what I have on Elmer Ellsworth Brockway. Born January 1865 in Boone County, Indiana. Then he disappears for 26 years from records until he marrys Lydia A. McCombs on 1 January 1891 in Boone County, Indiana. (Indiana Marriages 1845-1920.). I only found one Brockway family in Boone Co., IN in 1860 and 1870, with no Elmer. I checked the new 1880 census index from Family Search, when Elmer would have been 15, for IN, IL, OH and KY. No Elmer appears. For the 1900 Census the family of he, his wife, 3 children and a step=son are enumerated in Jackson Twp., Madison County Indiana. Page 340A. For the 1920 Census, the children have left and Elmer and Lydia are enumerated in Center Twp., Muncie, Delaware Co., IN. The next record I have is the death record of Lydia Brockway, 28 April 1928 at New Castle, Henry Co., IN. She was buried at South Mound Cemetery, New Castle, Henry Co., IN. Elmer survived her for 20 more years and died in 1948, somewhere in Indiana. His Death Certificate might give us who his parents were. These are from Ancestry.com census images on line: 1900 Jackson Township, Madison County, Indiana, Page 340A, image 21 Brockway, Elmer E. Head W M Jan 1865, born IN, parents born IN . Lydia A. Wife W F Jul 1861, born KY, father born IN, mother bornOH . Ernest N. Son W M May 1893, born IN, father born IN, mother born KY . Claude E., Son W M Sep 1895, born IN, father born IN, Mother borh KY , Edith L. , Dau W F Aug 1898, born IN, father born IN, mother born KY McCombs, John P., step son W M Jan 1884, born KY, father born KY, moth b. KY Elmer was 35, Lydia was 38, Ernest was 7, Claude was 4, Edith was 2 and John P. McCombs was 16 1920 Census, Center Township, Muncie, Delaware County, Indiana, page 3A, image 5. Brockway, Elmer Head M W. 55, born IN, parents born IN , Lydia Wife F W, 58, born KY, father born IN, mother born OH The important info for me is that Elmer's parents were born in Indiana. P.S. Another Indiana marriage record has Elmer E. Brockway marrying Lydia A. McCombs. She evidently was married first to a McCombs as on the 1900 census there is a step-son, John P. McCombs enumerated with them. Can anyone help? Lydia Straughn married 1st to ? McCombs, and her parents were John M. Straughn and Anna Hisel. she married 2nd to Elmer Ellsworth Brockway. Were her parents living in Boone County, Indiana? I know nothing about her parents or Siblings. as for Elmer Ellsworth Brockway there was a George W. Brockway of Boone County, Indiana, not sure of his age or if related, but likely. Does anyone have earlier census records of George W. Brockway , or Lydia Straughn as a child, or her with her 1st husband ? McCombs?

    3. No I would drive there and then use my scooter to get into the Library. If there are not too many steps I can walk in as long as I can find a parking spot close to the steps. I cannot walk very far without having to sit and rest because of the arthritis and breathing problems. Other than that I am fine. 3. I remember at their library having steps but then again I could be wrong. Are you the lady who lives in Frankfort?? If so just call and ask them. Look on the Internet for their phone number if you don't have it. I just reread your note and see you are that lady. Would you ride all the way on your scooter?? You are brave. char ----- Original Message ----- From: "Mary Anne Cook" <nanny12@geetel.net> To: <INBOONE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, November 10, 2002 7:21 PM Subject: Re: [INBOONE-L] Searching for BOLLINGER Mary > I really need to get over to Lebanon to the Library there and do some > research. 3. Not only will there be a record of commitment at the local level, but there will also be one at the state level. For the state record, contact the Indiana State Archives. Records of Central State hospital and other state hospitals are available in paper and web formats. You may want to contact me privately about help at the Archives, where staff is very depleted due to the state hiring freeze. I volunteer at the Archives a few times a month, and I can say that each skilled employee there tries to accomplish the jobs of 3 or 4 people. The Archives has a website with the address on E 30th St, the "temporary" location. It had better be temporary: the roof leaked, and there was a big puddle in the middle of the processing room floor yesterday. What a marvelous exhibit for yesterday's Open House. We volunteers are just grateful the leak did not ruin any of the many original documents being processed in that room for use by the public. 3. I really need to get over to Lebanon to the Library there and do some research. I once asked the list if there was a way I could get tinto the library on my scooter and I never got an answer. Guess I will just have to go over and try and if I can't then try to make it in there without it. A Byroad cousin told me she thinks that GGGGrandma Mary went insane and was put into an old folks home in Indianapolis sometime after 1877 and was there until she died. She says there should be a court order having her committed there. Would the Court House have records from that time, or would I be able to find that information at the Library there? Would the court order state where she was sent and would they still be there and still have her records? What kind of proof would I have to have in regards to my relationship to her? Her son Enos Byroad was my GGGrandfather and his son Thomas Neal was my GGrandfather, his daughter Pansy was my Grandmother and her daughter Sarah was my Mother. I do have Grandma's Birth cert, but was told at the Health Department in Lebanon that Mom did not have one. I find that hard to believe as her 2 brothers and 2 sisters had one and 3 were born before her and the other one born after her. 1. [INBOONE-L] Searching for BOLLINGER Mary
    2. Mary Anne Cook
    3. BOLLINGER Mary d. before 1880, m. John Byroad JR who was b. 1803 in PA, They had 8/9 sons, no daughters, all b. in Darke County, Ohio. They moved to Lebanon, Boone County, Indiana where they signed a land deed in 1877. She and John are in the 1870 Illinois census, but she is not on the 1880 Indiana census and John is listed as a widower. Who are her parents and siblings and what happened to her, where is she burried and where did she die? Indianapolis, Marion County, Indiana, or Lebanon, Boone County, Indiana? I am desperately wanting to find her. She is my GGGGrandmother. Is she in fact the Mary Byroad who is burried in the old Cedar Hill Cemetery in Lebanon, Boone County, Indiana? My gut tells me she is. The Mary Byroad burried there was burried around the time of the last burrials in that now closed cemetery, my GGGGrandmother died around that time frame. There are still over 500 people still burried there. All but one are now their descendant's brick walls. Can anyone help me find my GGGGrandmother Mary Bollinger Byroad? I will be forever grateful. Always Mary Mary Anne Cook Frankfort, Indiana Surnames I am searching for are: NEWMAN, BYROAD, BRUMBAUGH, PARKER, BOLLINGER, LIBEY, LAUGHLIN, COOK, PURDUE, OWENS, OCHERMAN, MCGUIRE, SAINT, BROWN, ULLERY, and many more. 1. [INBOONE-L] Menoah Smith/ Julianne Shirley 1835-1850/ Boone/ Henricks Co
    2. I am looking for evidence of the death of Julian/ Julia Ann/ Julianne Smith, wife of Menoah Smith between 1840 and 1850. Her maiden name was Shirley, parents not yet identified. Menoah (Noah) and Julianne married 1835 in Hendricks Co. and were living in Boone for 1840 census. By 1850 Julianne is missing and Noah is living with a Benjamin T Smith back in Hendricks Co. Other researchers have suggested that Noah had 3 children from a prior marriage: Benjamin T. b 1820; Archibald b. 1821; and ? John ? b 1813. Perhaps descendents from these children know something about Julianne? Any help greatly appreciated. Thank you. Charlotte Redden
