Mickey hi thank you for the info ill wright to Robert and get a copy as im in NC he gave me some of what he had all ready and i still have his email. Rhonda
I apologize that I neglected to list the subject in a recent post to the list. I'm usually quite responsible about that, as I use the digest form to go through these, and ignore messages that don't immediately appear relevant to me. However, all my messages are readily identifiable as coming from the Boone County (or other rootsweb) list, so I am always quite certain they're not spam. Having just left AOL after seven years, I know the only way it could be considered spam by them (not that they care--they're useless with real spam) is if someone intentionally reported it as such. I would never report a message I know came from Rootsweb as spam, since I asked to receive it--even if it isn't relevant to my search. I hope everyone will take care, and I commit to trying harder, to identifying their subject matter in the subject line. And when we don't, I hope everyone will be forgiving. Nice to see activity on this list finally, and thanks for all the interest in Casons, Kernodles, Witts, Strains and all other Boone County families.
There seems to be a lot of requests going around for the name Witt. My great-grandfather's sister, Bertie Curtis (b. 12 Jun 1892 KY) married Alva Witt (b. abt 1888 IN). I have a OLD photo of Alva Witt, my grandfather William Ellis Curtis and his brother Elmer Curtis. This photo was probably taken in the early 1900's. Just in case someone is researching Alva & Bertie, I would be happy to exchange any info or photos. Thanks, Kim Nguyen
Since I get so may unwanted e-mail, I routinely delete e-mails that I do not recognize, I notify AOL of Spam Mail received, and I block the address from my acceptable e-mail list. Please identify what you are writing about clearly, or you will be blocked from my e-mail, and AOL may look into Boone County for spamming.
Thanks Cuzzie... even if we are shirttail cuzzies <grin>. This does help a lot. Hugs, Cheryl ========Original Message======== Subj: Unidentified subject! Mickey, Cheryl, and others. About the cemetery: you might be surprised who descends from Casons and others in the cemetery, whatever their surnames. I agree that the fate of some cemeteries seems to be better than others, but there is increasing awareness of these issues in Indiana. This includes the INPCRP group, more information at township trustee meetings, articles on fortunate or unfortunate events that occur to cemeteries, etc. I guess you need to know if the cemetery is on privately owned land, has even been deeded out, or has an active or inactive cemetery association. If the cemetery was deeded out, the township trustee has charge. And you know the saying about the squeaky wheel getting the grease. I have also had satisfactory results working through the issue of a derelict cemetery by networking with all folks I knew who could have an impact on the situation. I ended up secretary of a revived cemetery association, but frankly, I feel pretty good about that. I hope to still feel good about it when I have filled out all the paperwork for not for profit status.....and when working on a stone in 90 degree heat. And regarding distance: if you live a far piece from Boone Co, you can help with cost of materials. Or to pay for a professional to repair tombstones that you care about. Hope this doesn't sound preachy, it's just one of those areas I feel strongly about: respecting the monuments to the people who brought us where we are fortunate to be. That's interesting that you don't see a mention of George Kernodle in the Cason Cemetery, because I have a record of him being buried there.... but records can be wrong, depending who and when they were written down. Might need to do some more digging to find out if this information was in error. Lord knows there are tons of errors made, even on court documents. Sarah Witt married Jacob Kernodle, she was born in NC according to IN Census data. But we don't know where in NC... my guess would be somewhere close to or in either Guilford Co., NC or the neighbording county to the north of it, since the family farm was near the border of the two counties. I don't know if any of her siblings went to IN, but since Jacob and 2 of his other siblings went to Boone Co., IN, I would guess there is a stong possibility that some of the Witt line ended up in IN. Most of the other siblings of J acob Kernodle stayed in the south. Some fought for the Confederacy, too... Sarah Ursual Melvina Kernodle's husband William Banker Beach, however didn't fight and left Boone Co., IN and moved his family back to Providence, RI in 1860. I think he realized there was an excellent chance there was going to be war and because his mother was a Quaker, didn't want to have to fight or put his family in harms way. I don't have any idea of who Sarah "Sally" Witt's parents were :(... or her siblings :(. Nor do I have any more on the CASON line either.... One of these days I hope to break down that brick wall on the WITTs of NC & IN.
