Guess not. I am on the Lincoln Co., TN site also and they must get 50-70 hits each and every day and everyone so helpful. Pretty slow here in Boone Co. Must be the winter douldrums.

Caldwell lineage: William Caldwell was born in Virginia around 1771 and was married to a Mary Clybourn. It's thought that William was the son of Hugh Caldwell and grandson of James Caldwell, who immigrated from Ireland. As best I've been able to determine, they had a son named Seth born around 1803. Seth married a Nancy Rice and they had several children, one a son named Andrew J. Caldwell born around 1832. Andrew left home and moved to Boone County and lived near his uncle Thomas Caldwell (son of William) and Thomas's son Nathaniel. I am descended from Andrew. Andrew and Polly James had several children, including Mary E., Seth, John D., William Thomas, Sarah E. and Frank. Frank was my paternal great grandfather. Interestingly enough, William also had a second family in Kentucky. He was pioneer traversing the Cumberland Gap and married a woman thought to be part Indian -- around Harlan County Kentucky. Now Mary was still alive in Virginia at the time. But William and Aggie (in Kentucky) had nine children. There's a wide assortment of their descendants in Southeast Kentucky and the lineage has been chronicled by Archie Caldwell who is currently in the hospital in Tennesee -- recovering from heart surgery and other ailments. I knew your name looked familiar. Yes, I recall that Bible, which I think you passed on to a direct descendant? You will enjoy the expertise of Dellie Craig at the Crawfordsville library. She knows Montgomery Co records well. BTW, I appreciate your ending quote, which appears to me to be a command from on High to do genealogy! Great! You should consider that the family might have moved on but been reported with slightly different names in the 1900 census. At least William may be living then, if the parents had died. You may find death records in IN from 1882, but not all deaths were recorded. An example of name change: William Asbury Tatum was listed as William Tatum in IN in 1870 He is very likely the Berry Tatum in IA in 1880 with a different wife and some of the same children. He also acquired some children from his second wife(?), who were also surnamed Tatum per the census. If they were his, he abandoned his first wife, Rachel Hendrixson, long before their divorce, reported by Rachel on the 1880 census for White Co. Think creatively. Your family may have been as "creative" as mine. Sharon Mills At 02:06 PM 1/8/2004, you wrote: > Looking for William BALDWIN b. ca1847 Owen or Putnam Co. IN. I will stop by and take a look at it. I was there in early December and no vandalism was apparent. Center Cemetery is on the list for restoration work. Ellen, Thanks for the reply. Actually, I have already set the lower fragment of Lucretia Kersey's stone and will be repairing and restoring her original stone this spring. I think you will be very happy with it. Also, I will be re-capping the concrete base that John Kersey has because it is not set square in the row of stones. I will also be setting John Kersey's original marble stone next to the military marker. All the Kersey stones that are down will be up by June. Unfortunately someone has ran over the Kersey military marker with a lawn mower and took out a golf ball size of the granite marker's corner. I can't find the fragment so I assume it was shattered. If you want to pursue replacing the stone from the VA then I will reset the stone at no charge when it comes in. In the meantime I will reset the current stone. I assume you live in Columbus,Indiana. I am just about done with Carter's Chapel cemetery on US 31 and Lowell road, just north of Columbus. It has about 160 stones and its 98 percent done. I will be continuing with the restoration of the township cemeteries in Columbus twp including Lambert,Thompson,Garden City, and Mt Pleasant cemeteries this year. I also restored 16 stones in Marion twp,Boone Co., at Parr-Richardson cemetery in December. I believe John Kersey's infant is the earliest burial in Beck. I think it was a 1833 death date. That stone was reset this week. Molly Riggs is the Center township trustee. Any thanks should go to her for understanding the historical value of Beck cemetery and be willing to fund the restoration project. She can be reached at her office (765) 482-1550. Mark Davis ----- Original Message ----- From: Kenneth & Ellen Baker To: INBOONE-L@rootsweb.com Sent: Thursday, January 01, 2004 9:09 AM Subject: Re: [INBOONE-L] Restoration of Beck cemetery,Center township Mark, I am so glad to see that work will be done in the Beck Cemetery. I am a Kersey descendent, and likely descended from the Hazelriggs as well. I haven't researched the Hazelrigg branch of the family, but I am a direct descendent of John Kersey and his wife, Lucretia. I am a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and was able to prove my lineage back to John Kersey who fought the Indians in Northern Kentucky with Daniel Boone. The Lebanon Chapter of the DAR has long recognized John Kersey as a Revolutionary Patriot. His name is on the marker at the courthouse in Lebanon, and his tombstone in the Beck Cemetery was placed there by the DAR. I would like to see a new or much repaired stone for Lucretia Kersey. I would be willing to contribute financially for this to happen. Her stone looks very bad compared to his, and it seems that it should be upgraded. Let me know how I can help with this. I think that all of the Kersey graves are descended from John. He had many children, they all moved to Boone County in the early 1800's, and he followed them about 1830. I have a very old map of Boone Co that shows the land owners in the early 1800's, and many of them are Kerseys. I live in Columbus, my maiden name was Davis --- though I don't think we're related --- and I grew up in Boone Co. My brother still lives on the family farm in Marion Township. Again, thanks for your work, and please keep me posted.
