Donnagene, Thank you very much. You added a whole line to the Jones Family tree, much more progress than I have had in months. I confirms that some family stayed around Zionsville. That and one of the hard names to trace. It is hard enough looking for Jones's much less one named Mary. I am much in your debt and now have some more information to chase out. I have relatives that where buried in or around Lebanon, Indiana. This must be the reason I can't find any information on them? My mother Catherine Nicholson Loughry b. 1906, d. 1993 She had no record of her birth because the county Building burned down. I don't know when this happened but we had to get certified letter stating that she was born in Lebanon, Indiana 1906. I believe it was from the daughter of the doctor who delivered my mother.?????Now what can I do to find information on my grandparents? with the cemetery gone and records gone?
Thanks Donnagene, My GGGGrandmother's name was Mary Bollinger Byroad. I don't have any record of her having been burried in Oak Hill with GGGGrandpa John (Uncle Jacky) Byroad. I sure hope she is not the one or that they moved her on over to Oak Hill. I will have to check with Oak Hill on my next visit over to Lebanon Friday. She was the Mother of My GGGrandfather Enos Byroad and the Grandmother of my GGrandfather Thomas Neal Byroad I was not born until 1951 so I would have been way too young to have done anything about moving her or anything, but if I had been old enough I sure would have done it. I don't think it is right for them to move or desecrate any grave, I don't care how old or unkept it is. Eventually someone will come along and clean it up. If that is My GGGGrandmother or any of the Great Aunts that I had then her grave is lost to me and other descendant's like me who have shown an interest in searching for them. If I lived in Lebanon and could vote there that Mayor sure would NOT get MY vote. All of the Byroads you just mentioned are in fact all of mine. I have all of them in the Generation of John Byroad that I have. Thanks for letting me know. Kay, I have collected some information about the Harmon family which might help you. I have William Alexander Harmon born 7 Jan 1826 in Marion County, Indiana married Emma Elizabeth Miller 17 Jan 1847 in Boone County, Indiana. She was born 17 Jun 1825 in Indiana. I have only one child listed which is James N. Harmon born 7 Oct 1848 in Boone County, Indiana who married Martha E. Miller born 13 Sep 1840 in Indiana. The source of this was a Submission by George M. Findley, george_findley@hotmail.com. I have the line back a couple of generations on the Harmons. I suspect Millers are related to one another. How I don't know. Willard Anderson Cloverdale, Oregon Kay Haden wrote: > I have a Miller connection I'd love to solve. > > Elizabeth Miller married 17 Jun 1847 to William Alexander Harmon. No, I haven't had much information on Boone County, other than what I have gathered over the internet. I have a few family histories from the Harper and Sparh's history. I have spent a lot of time going through the census for that area and into Hamilton county. The Miller line goes back to Lewis Miller born 1800 in NC died in 1876 in Hamilton county. It is pretty limited, but if my memory serves me I believe that there were Miller marriages in allied lines that I am suspicious about tying together. I hope to someday get a look at the 1984 History that you have described. Willard Anderson Cloverdale, Oregon tom dougherty wrote: > Have you seen the 1984 History of Boone Co.,IN ? I have a Miller connection I'd love to solve. Elizabeth Miller married 17 Jun 1847 to William Alexander Harmon. The 1850 census for Boone Co indicates she was born 1826 in Indiana. They had two children in that census, James N., age 2, and an infant, Mary Elizabeth [my g grandmother]. I've been told Wm Harmon died 3 Jan 1881 and is buried Salem Cemetery in Eagle Township, Boone Co. I don't know about Elizabeth's death. Donnagene, can you tell me more about the John F. Miller family? Kay Haden At 09:42 PM 3/24/2002 -0800, you wrote: >Have you seen the 1984 History of Boone Co.,IN ? There was a Mary Byroad buried in Cedar Hill. No other info available. Libbe Hoogeveen who put together the book OAK HILL CEMETERY LEBANON,INDIANA has Noel Thomas b 1827 and Thomas b 1855. Both had wifes named Susan. There are several Byroads infants. In fact, nine in all. Some were children of John, Jack and Arron. Deaths were from 1883-1920. Donnagene
Here's another source of information about burial dates. Burial permits have been written for people being buried in Indiana cemeteries for many years, probably back into the 1910's. I found that out from looking at one cemetery's records. Here's the problem, though. The funeral home director has to hand these off to some one at the cemetery. In one instance, he had been giving them to the grave digger. Who knows what that person did with them? If the cemetery has a caretaker on duty, I imagine the problem is less frequent. But if the cemetery has its records, ask for this document. I have found some of them, but not all of them, have been kept as part of one cemetery's documents. Otherwise, after 1882, look for death records if the county of death is known. Donnagene and Kim, Thanks for mentioning all this. I hope I will NOT find my family's obits to say they were buried there, but if I do, I will at least know I won't need to look for stones. I feel for those like Rhonda who are forced to deal with the results of a community's disregard for some of its veterans, pioneers, and their descendants. Hi Donnagene, My GGrandfather was Thomas Neal Byroad. His Father was Enos Byroad and Enos Father was John Byroad also known as Uncle Jacky. All three of them are burried in Oal Hill Cemetery although I have not at this time found any of their graves. I am told that My GGGrandfather John has no gravestone so that could possibly be why I have not been able to find him. My Aunt Grace died at 3 years old in February 1883 Her baby brother Edward died in the same year as an infant. He was born in August and died in September. They were also Byroad's. GGrandma Susan Ullery's parents were Allen Ullery and Martha Brown. She was born in Boone County, Indiana on 10 April 1861 and she is also burried in Oak Hill Cemetery beside GGrandpa Thomas. Could the babies be burried in the same graves and therefore not listed? Some of the Byroad babies are listed on the papers I have, but they are not named only as Jack or John's child or whoever the Father was. So I have not been able to find any of the babies that are listed either. I hope better records are being kept of babies that are burried now than they were then. My Uncle Ethan's little newborn son Billy is burried with my Uncle Neal Purdue at his head. I only know this because Uncle Ethan, Grandma or Grandpa told me that as I was growing up when we would go visit Grandma's grave there. Sure would love to find all of the babies and somehow mark their graves with something easy to find on future visits..
