A very large number of Quakers emigrated to Indiana around 1800 with several more coming in the next 50-60 years. Indiana, particularly Jackson County which is south of Columbus (Bartholomew County), had a sizeable Quaker community in the 19th Century. The fact that he eventually settled in Jackson County is significant in that respect. 2. What was his name and the name of possible relatives and friends? It is always possible those relatives/friends emigrated previously and told him of favorable conditions (both social and economic) in Columbus at that time. 3. Did he stay in Indiana or did he move on? Indiana was a favorable stopping point in the 1850s and 1860s for settlers moving on west, especially Iowa and Illinois. Hope this gives you a couple of ideas of where to start....
