    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/lh.2ADE/2210.1.2 Message Board Post: I worked on this family for a query some time ago, so accumulated a file on them. Have a copy of a family group sheet for John Perry Cox that says he was b. 6 June 1820, at Marietta, Washington Co., OH; parents given as Samuel? and Henrietta? John Perry Cox d. 29 Mar. 1893, Independence, Montgomery Co., KS. This sheet dated 16 Feb. 2000, from Judith Stevens, 2130 N. Lewis St., Santa Ana, CA 92706; [email protected] More material from Sara Singleton Slaven, 120 N. Riverside Drive, Winamac, IN 46996; [email protected], which says that Samuel Cox was b. abt 1790 PA, son of Michael and Margaret McCray Cox. Michael and Margaret both d. about 1800, in Bourbon Co., KY and their children, Elizabeth, John, William, Andrew, Samuel and Hannah, were sent to an uncle, Martin McCray in Ohio. These children are named in a deed record in the parents' estate in Kentucky. Samuel Cox m. Henrietta Kitson 28 July 1816 at Dayton, OH. She was b. about 1800, Canada. They came to Indiana about 1827, listed on 1830 census for Bartholomew Co. By 1850 they were in Johnson Co. (Hensley Twp). In 1870, Henrietta was living in Columbus (Barth. Co.) with a married daughter, Elizabeth Williams. There are two matching grave markers at the Atterbury Cemetery in Johnson Co. that are probably this Cox couple. One reads, "In Memory of Henrietta Cox" and the other simply says, "In Memory of Cox." No dates. This cemetery is off the west side of St. Rd. 31, north of Edinburgh, and includes a number of cemeteries that were moved out of Camp Atterbury at the outset of WWII. The graves are on the left side of the drive, about halfway down, and 3 rows back. Samuel Cox did not own any land in 1850; don't know where they were in 1860. Unless he bought land before he died, he probably had no estate record. There is no estate for him in Bartholomew. Children I have listed for Samuel and Henrietta Cox are Margaret, b. 1817 OH; Stephen, b. 1819 OH; Charlotte, b. 1826 OH (she m. Samuel Kiser 4 May 1844); Elizabeth, b. 1828 IN; William A., b. 1832 IN; and Mary S., b. 1838 IN. This is a piecemeal list, not complete, so your John Perry Cox may well be another sibling. Probably at least one other between John Perry and Charlotte; and another between Elizabeth and William. Maybe more later. Stephen Cox and his wife were living in 1870, not found after that. He also was very poor, didn't own anything, and left little to trace. His sister Elizabeth Williams was living in 1870 in Columbus, don't know about her after that either.. Could some of these others have gone to Kansas too?
