This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: ZEIGLER, LYNCH, DRAKE, ROMINGER Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/lh.2ADE/2179 Message Board Post: I am now retired, and can devote some time to this now! Most of my data is someplace in my basement; had to move it to high ground when the condenser flooded the basement.....Anyway, I provide the following information in hopes that someone may be able to fill in the blanks. I'm looking for links to Daniel Zeigler, b. 1784 in Shenandoah Co, VA. Married Anna Maria Rominger (b. in Stokes Co. NC, Sep 5, 1785) in 1805; moved to Indiana and was involved with establishing the Moravian Church in Southern Indiana. Died in 1837, Hope or Columbus, IN. I think this is my lineage. It gets wierd when I get to the 20th Century. My great-grandfather was Raymond E. Zeigler (b. Sep 14 1889, d. Abt. 1961). Married Mamie Irene Lynch (b. 02/14/1890, d. Abt. 1960) on 05 Apr. 1908. One son from this union: John Alfred Zeigler (b. 05 May 1909, d. March 1977). John Alfred married Doris Barrows about 1926. One son from this union, my father, Alfred Edison Zeigler (b. 06/23/1927, d. 03/14/1995). John Alfred Zeigler divorced my grandmother and remarried Mary Drake; they had two sons. John Alfred Zeigler, Jr. and Robert (I think). I don't remember Robert, but John and I used to play together. My granddad owned Zeigler's Boat Shop. It was located across from Cummins' main plant at the corner of Central and State Streets, right on the Haw Creek. Stadler's Meat packing was right across the creek. John, as far as I know, lives in Hope, Indiana. Robert lives out west somewhere. Mary owned Zeigler's Tailor Shop on Washington Street in Columbus. When I last s! aw her, at my dad's funeral, she still went into the tailor shop a couple of days or so. I haven not heard from any of them since then, and I do no know if she is still living. My father, Alfred Edison Zeigler married Lorraine Hensley (b. 10/08/1926, d. 02/13/1991) on 10/18/1946. My mother was born on October 8. 1926 and died on February 13 1991. I am their only child. I was born August 8, 1948 in Columbus, IN. I currently live in Stafford, VA. Before Raymond Zeigler, it gets rather dicey. There were some divorces, etc. that cloud it up a bit. What I am trying to do is verify the lines back to Daniel Zeigler, or find the correct line. Because of divorces, etc. there is a murky quality to this search. I'm trying to trace it back to Europe, but haven't had time or luck in the past. There are very few Zeiglers in Germany; it is more common in Switzerland, and practically nonexistent in Austria. Some say that it is actually French--probably from Alsace-Lorraine (Elsass-Lothringen) and the family was part of the French Huguenots who fled France during the French Revolution. I was told that the original Zeigler ancestor was a Hessian soldier, who either deserted or surrendered at Yorktown, and after the American Revolution settled in Shenandoah Co. So much for my daughter becoming a member of the DAR.....Any info is greatly appreciated. Stephen A. Zeigler
