My David A. Erwin was born in Posey Co IN in 1846. He did join the Union army in Posey Co. in 1864. He was in Company A 10th Cav. This military regiment was started in Columbus IN. David's wife Francis died in 1903 in IL I have censuses 1850, 1880, 1900, 1910, 1920 for David A and his family. David first applied for a pension in 1878 and every few years he would ask for an increase in his pension. In 1913, David wrote a letter to the to the goverment and he signed it David A Erwin, Hope, Indiana Bartholomew County. This was a long trip for a person from Crossville IL to Hope. I am not aware of any family member living in that area during that time period. There had to be some one or an organization that helped him. Why was he there?? Perhaps I will never find out.
