I have a William Carter, Sr. b. c. 1771, died 20 Aug 1833 buried in Hawcreek Baptist Cemetery in Bartholomew County. Notes have him as charter member of the church. In Franklin Co as early as 1807 and then to Bartholomew Co in 1819 or 1820. Purchased land 10/28/1820 in Flat Rock Township, and 10/5/1823 in Hawcreek Township and sold Flat Rock Twp land 2/22/1826. Wife Mary Carter b. c. 1771 I have as children Sarah Carter m. Wiley Powell Rebecca Carter m. Thomas Harker William Carter Jr (b. c. 1797) married Margaret Dunn John Carter married Elizabeth Glidewell (I have note of info in Bartholomew Co Family Histories published 1999 he is native of SC) Isaiah Carter m. Nancy Ray (I have note of article in Hope Republican dated Thursday July 14, 1892 tells of him coming to Haw Creek Twp in 1823. James Carter m. Jehoda Wilson Mary Carter m. Levi Jacob Rominger This family and a second Carter family in the area all intertwine with my Essex. I know a whole group from the Hope area went to KS-some returned, some didn't.
