You were correct that it was originally a Lutheran congregation, St. Mathews. The first church was built in 1857, jointly by both the Lutherans and the United Brethern; followed by an unhappy period where the U.B.s, being in the minority, were put out. This caused lots on grief and discontent on both sides. The U.B.s met in the school for awhile, then disbanded entirely, and the Lutherans took full ownership. Their membership continued to decline, and they only met sporadically. The last Lutheran minister left Ohio Ridge in 1898, and the Methodists used the facility for some time after that. I do not know of any existing church records from the St. Michael's congregation, but perhaps having the NAME may help you track them down through Missouri Synod.

The church building was likely removed at that time, if it was still standing. I'm not certain of the denomination--think it may have been a couple of different ones. There was another Lutheran Church not far away, St. John's. That church is also gone, but the cemetery remains. It is outside the area taken for the Camp. There are few records that I know of for either one of these churches, although there are listings of the marked graves. Who were your people? I may be able to determine which cemetery they are buried in.

Surnames: Critser Critzer Roome Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/lh.2ADE/2575 Message Board Post: Hi, I am trying to research some more family history on my ggrandmother's family. This is what I know. My ggrandmother's name is Sarah Critser (spelled Critzer in some places), Her dad was William Henry Critser, and her mother was Ida Maude Roome, born June 26, 1883, died Dec 19 1926 (maiden name). William Henry's parents were William A Critser, and his wife's name was Sarah, but there are some discrepensies on what I have found online in other people's tree's on her maiden name. From what I found on Marriage records, I believe she was Sarah L Miller, and they were married in Aug 1861, William A was born in 1841 or 1840, William Henry was born in 1868 and died Mar 15, 1938. I am looking to expand on this and go back. I have found 2 different trees on One World with similar but different info. William A was born in Indiana from what I know (I believe Brown County), but when looking at census records, there was another William A born about the same time, in the same county, bu! t different towns. So I am puzzled wether or not his parents were Henry Critser and Mary Smith, or William E Critser and Sarah Todd? Also, If anyone has any info on the Roome family that would be great. I know that Ida Maude Roome's parents were Frank Roome, and her mother's first name was Rachel, and I believe that her maiden name was Rooney. If anyone has any info to help me expand my tree on any of these people, it would be greatly appreciated! thanks! Rachael =0)
