I'm out of town, so can't check my references. We (the Genealogical Society) did a book on Harrison, Ohio & Jackson Twp. cemeteries--it's on the shelf in the Indiana Room at the Library. This will have specific driving directions, plus grave listings. Maryellen Grossman also has a copy of the book at the Clerk's Office in the Courthouse. We still have copies of this book to sell, $25 plus postage if it has to be mailed. Call me direct, (812) 372-9274, after July 4th, if you'd like to buy one. Donna Kuhlman Bartholomew Co. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/lh.2ADE/2583.2.1.1.1 Message Board Post: Unbelievable! Thank you so much. To demonstrate why I am so grateful, here are a couple of new items in your research report. 1. I didn't know my grandfather Hile's first name was in fact William. We have "William's" all over our family tree. 2. You have provided a specific date of Alice's death, making the obituary search that much earsier. I have been (vainly) focusing my efforts to confirm or deny that her father William - yet another one - was from Virginia. This specific date may help. 3,. Juicy little sugggestion that great grandfather William and great grandmother Alice may have been a little naughty. Blame it on his time in Civil War. Baby boomers and all that. 4. Finally, thanks to your earlier contribution, I found a second cousin once removed (Naughty Alice's great great grandson) living in Ohio. I sent him an introductory letter, forwarded a picture I have of Kate, and asked if he had any old family photos. Who knows where it all may lead...due largely to your contribution. Thanks again. He married Salome Everroad/Ueberoth 19 July 1827, probably in Lehigh Co. or Northhampton Co. PA. Salome b. 30 Mary. 1806 Lehigh Co. PA (says so on her stone); d. 17 Dec. 1876 at Hope, buried 19th. She had TB. Their son William Christian Woehler was b. 10 Dec. 1837 at Hope, died 26 Mar. 1881 at Hope (not 24th as I said earlier.) He married 14 Apr. 1870 Shelby Co., Indiana, to Alice Payne, daughter of William Payne and Hannah Peters. Alice was born 11 May 1849 at Indianapolis (says THAT on her stone too!), died of TB, 13 Aug. 1877, buried at Hope. The two children, Katie May and William Hile, were baptised together on 2 Sept. 1871, although neither of the parents were church members at that time. Here it gets a little curious: Katie May was born 24 May 1869. Um.....before William and Alice were married. Assuming the marriage date is correct--I did not verify that. William Hile Woehler was born 7 June 1871, at Hope. In 1874, Alice reconsidered her spiritual status, and joined the church. She was baptised 1 Mar. 1874. This baptism record lists her as born 11 May 1849, daughter of William Payne. Katie m. William Herman Rights 18 Nov. 1891 & went to Denver by 1920.

I was born and raised in Lawrenceburg, which is the County Seat of Dearborn County, but left there many years ago to pursue a career in the Air Force, and when I retired, I stayed in Mesa, Arizona. Don't like the cold weather anymore. As for the 1880 census, the problem is the last name is misspelled as Weohler. Also sometimes it is better to use the soundex option or search by first name only. Good luck. Don

I have wandered all over ancestry.com to no avail. Can you give me a URL or some other pointer to find the page you reference. I am still a novice so I suspect I am making a search error of some type. I tried both Waehler and Woehler. The good news is that I found William and Alice's marriage record just as you said. The 1870 census indicates the young couple moved in with William's family a couple of months after the marriage. So I'm hot on their trail, but I can't figure out why I can't find them in 1880. Thanks again.

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/lh.2ADE/2583.1.1.1 Message Board Post: Bob. I love mysteries. As you probably know Bartholomew and Shelby counties are neighbors. Remember these are transcribed record I am looking at and you would have to view the originals to be sure. William C Waehler married Alice Payne in Shelby county on 14 Apr 1870, source is book 9, page 358. I don't think Alice lived long after that. You can find William and his son Hile living with William's brother Charles B in the 1880 census for Bartholomew county, Hope township, Dist 8, image 13 of 17, lines 1 thru 6, on ancestry.com. Although the indexer listed this as Nile, I think it is your Hile. Hope this helps. Don

Their son, Hile, was my grandfather. On his death certificate, it notes his mother's maiden name as "Payne." We have a wonderful photograph from around 1875 showing the happy family... but no names. I've gone through all the ancestry.com material and can't find a trace of great grandfather "woehler" who I figure must have been born around 1853. Bartholomew County birth/death information doesn't start until 1882. I will be doing a cemetery check, but I was hoping RootsWeb might produce a lead. Thanks for anything you can contribute.
