If anyone would like a picture of the cemetery or a certain grave I am willing to take a few requests. You must know the exact plot location as I will not have time to look them up and I will most likely be going on a Saturday so the office will probably be closed. If you would like for me to take a digital photo for you please email me directly. Again, I reserve the right to cut this offer off at any time due to time constraints but I will do my best to accomodate your requests. Hopefully I can return some of the great help I have received from other members here. Malynda

Hello Malynda: The following information is derived from excellent set of reference books on Bartholomew County Marriages. This 4 volume set of soft cover books was purchased from Carolyne J. (Elkins) Stultz, Certified Genealogist, Stultz Computer Services, 217 N. SR 75, Danville, IN 46122-8734, copyright 1994. As of March 2000 her e-mail was KathyJo@aol.com and her phone number was (317)539-4029. Volume #1 and 2 cover Bartholomew County, Indiana marriages from 1821 - 1920 and provide, in alphabetical order the following information: name of bride/groom, married to groom/bride, birthdate (only for marriages after 1882), marriage date, individuals WPA#, book#, page#. Volume#3 covers only those marriages from 1882 - 1920 and provides, in alphabetical order, the following information: name of bride/groom, marriage date, age, name of father, name of mother, WPA# Volume #4, part 1 covers only those marriages from 1882 - 1920 and provides, in alphabetical order, the following information: name of father, WPA# (of the bride/groom), name of bride/groom Volume #4, part 2 covers only those marriages from 1882 - 1920 and provides, in alphabetical order, the following information: name of mother, WPA# (of the bride/groom), name of bride/groom As you might guess, it is possible to deduce extensive family relationships from this information, by glancing down the columns and collecting the information from the various volumes. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Here is what I found for you: Dale Cooper (no birthdate given), his WPA record #05471 in book C22, page 118 his age 22 years, his parents were James Cooper and Emma Fowler married on 16 Feb 1913 to Clara K. Galbraith (no birthdate given), her WPA record #09057 her age 22 years, her parents were W. C. Galbraith and Lillian Harney No other marriages were shown for either Dale Cooper nor for Clara K. Galbraith -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The marriage for the parents of Dale Cooper is also shown in these books: James Cooper (WPA#05496), no birthdate given, book C12, page 413 his age 22 years, his parents were Samuel Cooper and Mary Combs, he was married on 06 Feb 1890 to Emma Fowler (WPA#08746), no birthdate given her age 19, her parents Shadrack Fowler and Jerusha Harm No other marriages were shown for either this James Cooper (other men named James Cooper have marriages recorded, but they do not appear to be this man) nor for Emma Fowler. (NOTE: No marriages for any other children of Shadrack Fowler and Jerusha Harm appear in this book.) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The marriage for Samuel Cooper and Mary Combs/Coombs is also shown in these books: Samuel L. Cooper (WPA# 05537), no birthdate given, book C6, page 422 married on 09 Feb 1860 to Mary Jane Coombs (WPA#05441), no birthdate given (since this marriage occurred prior to 1882, the ages of the bride and groom and the names of their parents are not listed) A marriage for another child of Samuel Cooper and Mary Combs/Coombs also appears in these books: Henry H. Cooper (WPA#05495), age 23, married per book C12, page 160 on 09 Oct 1887 to Ida Fowler (WPA#08752), age a19, her parents were John Fowler and Jerusha Herring. The marriage of Ida Fowler's parents is recorded: John W. Fowler (WPA#08755) married 09 Aug 1860 per book C6, page 458 to Gerusha (sic) Herring (WPA#11490), age -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The marriage for the parents of Clara K. Galbraith -- W. C. Galbraith and Lillian Harney -- does not appear in this book. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Other children of Emma Fowler and James Cooper whose marriages were shown in these books: Ernest Cooper (WPA#05483), no birthdate given, age 24 years, book C26, page 179 married on 24 July 1918 to Eunice Shore (WPA#23158), born 12 March 1890, age 29, her parents John Shore and Loretta Coyle The marriage of John Shore (WPA#23162), age 25, his parents William Shore and Jane Holder married on 15 Dec 1887, book C12, page 173 to Loretta Coyle/ Cayle (WPA#04332), age 21, her parents Samuel Cayle and Minerva Miner William D. Shore (WPA#23173) married on 29 Aug 1859, book C6, page 372 to Nancy Jane Holder (WPA#12029) (NOTE: ages of bride/groom and parents of bride/groom not given for marriages before 1882) The marriage of Samuel Cayle/Coyle and Minerva Miner is not listed in these books. Ezekiel L. Cooper (WPA#13336), no birthdate given, age 47, book C11, page 424 married on 11 Sept 1884 to Nettie Jones (WPA#13336), no birthdate given, age 32, her parents were H. Jones and Sarah Davis (NOTE: this set of entries in these books does not make sense -- usually the bride and groom have different unique WPA#s; also the dates for this Ezekiel L. Cooper to be a child of Emma Fowler and James Cooper seems very wrong -- perhaps these marriage books have the year wrong for this marriage?) The marriage of Nettie Jones' parents, H. Jones and Sarah Davis, is not found in these books. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Other marriages noted in these books of the children of Fowler women and Cooper men (therefore possible relations): mother Julia Ann Fowler and her husband Samuel Cooper had child: daughter Monta M. Cooper (WPA#29617), born 28 Nov 1884, age 22, book C18, page 108 married on 27 Nov 1906 to Charles E. Bishop (WPA#29382), born 12 May 1876, age 30, his parents Thomas Bishop and Sarah Scott (NOTE: the marriage of Julia Ann Fowler and Samuel Cooper is not shown in this book; no marriages for other children of Julia Ann Fowler and Samuel Cooper are shown in this book). mother Nettie Fowler and father William J. Cooper had children: John R. Cooper (WPA#05504), no birthdate given, age 21, book C20, page 129 married on 01 Oct 1910 to Estie Grace Fox (WPA#08769), no birthdate given, age 17, her parents Adam Fox and Laura Treon and Clarence Cooper (WPA#29613), born 15 April 1887, age 30, book C18, page 001 married on 21 June 1906 to Ethel May Hughes (WPA#30015), born 01 Sept 1887, age 19, her parents S. C. Hughes and Martha Reed (NOTE: the marriage of Nettie Fowler and Wm. J. Cooper is not shown in these books). -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- No marriages of children of Cooper men and Fowler women were noted in these books. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----- Original Message ----- From: <malyndalucy@comcast.net> To: <INBARTHO-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, July 19, 2006 11:04 AM Subject: [InBartho] Re: Marriage lookup Please? > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Surnames: COOPER > Classification: Query > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/lh.2ADE/2426.1.2 > > Message Board Post: > > Would you be willing to look up a marriage for me and tell me any details it offers. Am taking a chance writing you referencing Cooper. A great aunt of mine (Alice G. Waughtel) married a George Cooper. Although not in Bartholomew County, they were next door in Jennings County. Alice & George were married August 1914 and could very well be related. Do you have anything on these names. They did have 4 children that I know of, namely: Kenneth, Mary, Dorothy Elizabeth and Mildred. I have no further information on the Cooper line but do on the Waughtel line. Her birthplace in IN was also cited in "Federal Census 1850," Shelby Co., IN, Noble Twp, Shelby Co., IN.) "My" Malissa is buried in Little Sand Creek Cemetery, Bartholomew Co., IN (this info received by email from Donna Kuhlman, May 2005, who copied down her headstone - "Melissa Flanigan, w/o John, d. 1 Apr. 1878, 41Y 5M 13D."). "My" Malissa Dunn's parents are recorded as Hosea Dunn and Elizabeth Christie. (source: "History of Shelby Co., IN, 1887", pg. 728, Information on Hosea Dunn and Elizabeth Christie from Charles L. Cook, Summer 2004. Hosea is also recorded in "History and Families of Montgomery County, Kansas, 1869-1994", pg. 152.) Some believe Hosea and Elizabeth married in October of 1820 in Shelby Co., KY, but people may have mixed up the Dunn records. I have no other evidence of Malissa's parents having been in KY. "My" John Flanigan and Malissa Dunn were married November 10, 1869 in Bartholomew Co., IN. (sources: "Marriage Records," Bartholomew Co., IN, recorded Nov 10, 1869, Roll 2, Frame 1469, Book 8, page 170. Also, per "Federal Census of 1870," Bartholomew Co., IN: Flanigan, John, 55, M, W, Farmer, b. PA, etc.). John and Malissa's three children, Willie, Hattie and Albert, are recorded in the "Federal Census of 1880," Columbus, Bartholomew Co., IN, Dist 3, Household 111, Family 115 as well as the previous census. Does any of this information match what you know about "your" Malissa/Melissa Dunn? I have known for some time about a Phillip Flanigan in the same area, who may have been born about 1805 in Lincoln Co., NC, and is said to have married a Dunn, also. I have never been able to determine if Phillip and John are related nor the name of the wife of Phillip. I have never seen source materials for this Phillip and his wife. Have you? Do you have more information? I have no Philips in my Flanigan line for the 300 years for which I have records.
