Hello to my friends and relatives... Bo and I are involved in, yet, another of our history projects - which we so much share and enjoy. (This, possibly, could evolve into another of my programs.) We have been having a recent discussion about: "Who are the major persons, in US history, who have been 'deified?'" deification: one that embodies the qualities of a god; the elevation of a person apotheosis: exaltation to divine rank or stature; deification Will you be kind enough, please, to report to me the three top persons - exclusive of sports figures! - whom you are convinced have been "deified" by the populace in the history of our United States? You might or might not agree with the deification of these three persons whom you name. But, what I am seeking is your opinion of, throughout our history, who these three would be. Suggestion: Do not think too deeply! Name the first three of whom you think. I shall be happy to share the results of this survey with you. Thank you for helping Bo and me - from Frances.

As I understand it, during the depression, in order to provide employment for the population, the government instituted a number of projects (many of which were public works, road building, fine arts, etc.). One of the projects was the indexing of public records, in this case in Bartholomew Co, IN. The WPA # was a method of keeping track of specific entries. So, for each marriage, each individual had a specific WPA reference #. And if a person married more than once, that person had a unique WPA # for each marriage. In my citations, book numbers and page numbers do not refer to numbers in my set of reference books, but rather in the original books in the county clerk's office, where the original records may be found. The compiler of my books donated the compiled books and her computer program and data base to the Bartholomew Co, IN clerk's office. So the WPA# and the book and page numbers should be helpful to anybody visiting the county clerk's office. My reference ! books were compiled from the micro-filmed WPA records. Here is the information on the Parisho's recorded in my books: Gabriel Parishaw, WPA#EM02476, married 08 Feb 1844 per book "ERLY" to Nancy Ann Hopkins, WPA#EM01597 Bessie Parisho, WPA#19051, age 18, her parents were T. In Franklin Co. probate records, Book 1, p. 240: "Asa Davis was appointed administrator Oct. 11, 1831 of the estate of Asa Davis deceased, and filed a bond of $400 with Robert Adair as his security. In 1832 he filed as appraisement and sale bill of the personal property, which was a small amount of household and farm items. David, Hiram Davis, Phebe Davis, Asa Davis all purchased items at the sale of the personal property, which only brought $18. Asa now makes final settlement of this estate, Nov. 1833." This item is from Maurice Holmes' abstract of Franklin co. court records (his p. 135). Not much to go on, but Franklin Co. is just south of Fayette Co. (where Hiram m. Elizabeth Plow); and also right on the state line with Ohio. A significant number of families came to Bartholomew Co. from Franklin Co., so there is plausibility there, too. If the money raised by the sale of estate goods was insufficient to pay the debts, there won't be any record of the heirs, as there was nothing to distribute. Still, you may want to check more closely into estate records for this Asa Davis (the elder one who died about 1831). This record does not mention any land owned, which is unfortunate since deeds are such a good way to prove these relationships. Still, I'd check into Franklin Co. deeds for that period, just to make sure there isn't something that connects Hiram to Asa Sr., Phebe, Asa Jr., or David Davis. See Franklin Co. on Rootsweb: http://www.rootsweb.com/~infrankl/ Also, Indiana marriages, to 1850: http://199.8.200.229/db/marriages_search.asp Hope this helps. Donna

Judith, I'm going to jump in on this thread and switch subjects. Do your Brannens include Harry or Jacob J? I have the following connection but haven't worked on the Brannen family otherwise. If you are interested in my Noah family-let me know. Harry Arthur Brannen born 23 Apr 1883 in Bartholomew County In died 14 Apr 1931 In Bartholomew Co. IN Spouse Martha (Mattie) Ann Noah born 28 Jun 1893 died 15 April 1931 They were married 5 Aug 1912. Harry hung himself in the barn 3 1/2 hours before his wife died. My mother said this family was never talked about, so not sure what all happened except for the obit information. Harry's father was Jacob J. Brannen and I have siblings as Glenn, Opal, Hazel and Delores. Mattie was the daughter of William R. Noah and my great grandfather Edward Robert Noah was her brother. I think that your Dale Cooper is the son of James Cooper and Emma Fowler who married in Bartholomew county on 6 Feb 1890, source is book C-12, page 1890. When Dale registered for the WW1 draft he stated he was born Nov 8, 1891 in Madison county. I believe that this is your family, in the 1900 census for Madison county, Frankton township, Dist 102, page 8B, the family was headed by James Cooper, 33, born Apr 1867, married 10 years, a laborer in a glass plant, born in Ind, father in Ohio, and mother in Ireland, and included his wife Emma, 28, Aug 1871, married 10 years, mother of 7, 5 still living, born in Ind as were both parents, his son Daily (your Dale), 8, Nov 1891, Ind, at school, his son Earnest, 4, Jun 1895, Ind, his twin sons Ray and Roy, 3, Nov 1896, and his son Loren, 1, May 1899, Ind. In the 1910 census the family was back in Bartholomew coun! ty, Hawcreek township, Dist 19, 6A, but only Emma (widowed), Roy, Ray, and Loren are listed.
