Welsh, 25 June 1937, in Bartholomew Co., by Rev. C.R. Parkhurst. Hershal date of birth is given as 17 Apr. 1916, Kokomo, Ind., son of T.S. Mahoney (born Jennings Co.) and Bertha Boley, born Burlington, Ind. Hershal was working at Noblitt Sparks Co. in Columbus. (Note: Social Security gives Hershal's date of birth as 17 Apr. 1917, not 1916. Not sure which is correct, but he might have fudged on his age, if he needed permission to get married before he was 21. Evelyn was born 18 Jan. 1917 in Marion Co., daughter of Daniel Welsh and Marietta Kennedy. Daniel was born Marion Co., deceased in 1937; Marietta was born in Bartholomew Co., residing there in 1937. Evelyn worked at Reliance Co. in 1937. She would not have needed permission, as she was older than 18. Donna Kuhlman Bartholomew Co. Genealogical Society

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Morgan McAllister Harlan Bennett Carson Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/lh.2ADE/2611 Message Board Post: I am interested in possibly making a connection to the Morgans who lived in Franklin Co. IN. My ancestor, James Morgan, lived in Bartholomew Co. in 1850. He lived a couple of houses away from John and Julia McAllister. The McAllister family included two sons named John Morgan and Elias Morgan. (The 1860 census in Bartholomew Co., shows John's name as John W. Morgan.) Julian Morgan was head of household in Bartholomew Co. IN in 1840 with two sons and also a male who would have been Jame's age in 1840. There was not another female listed. Lorenzo Dow Morgan bought property Apr 19, 1839 in Bartholomew Co., but died Sep. 15, 1839 in Bartholomew Co. The deed said he was of Franklin Co. Indiana. There is a marriage record in Franklin Co. for Lorenzo D. Morgan and Julia Harlan. They were married Nov. 8, 1832. July Ann Morgan married John McAllister in Bartholomew Co. Mar. 28, 1841. I believe that my James Morgan, b. abt 1806-1810 in N. C. might have been related to Lorenzo Dow Morgan. Perhaps they were brothers. It may be that my James Morgan had a first marriage in Franklin Co., as there was a James Morgan who married an Elenor Jane Bennett in Franklin Co. Mar 17, 1840. My James Morgan married Martha Carson Feb. 24, 1842 in Bartholomew Co. IN. The 1850 census shows James as age 40, and Martha as 26. The Morgans mentioned above who lived in Bartholomew Co., lived in Rock Creek. My James Morgan named one of his sons Elias. My James Morgan and his wife are buried in Cave Springs Cemetery, in Jennings Co. He died May 10, 1878 at the age of 72. She died June 22, 1886 at the age of 57 y 9 ms 28 d. There was a John W. Morgan b. abt 1809 or 1810 in NC who lived in Blooming Grove, Franklin Co., IN. He died after 1880, but I don't know where. He was 70 on the 1880 census. Both of his parents were born in Maryland. Perhaps this John W. Morgan was related to my James and Lorenzo. Do you know of other Morgans who came to Franklin Co. who were from North Carolina? Any information you might share would be appreciated. I've had a hard time getting back on this line.

    3. The cemetery is Bluff Creek Cemetery. The tombstone is for Cassandra Spurgin the first wife of Presley LaForce. Presley and Cassandra were married in 1853 in Bartholomew County. She died in 1860 after the couple moved to Mashaska County, Iowa. They were parents of two children--Emma and William. I would be interested in any information regarding Cassandra. She is a "brick wall" for me and would be happy to exchange information. If you write to the archive department and let them know what you want (copy of the information helps) they will copy it for you and send it out. There is a small charge for plain photo copies. I have not ever gotten the cemetery ones but I have gotten circuit court, deeds and wills for my family. Good luck in your search.

Surnames: COOPER, GALBRAITH, HENRY, SMILEY Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/lh.2ADE/2609 Message Board Post: I am looking for any type of record that would show a business that would have been open around 1947-1950 time period. It was in Columbus, Indiana and it was called Bill's Self Serve. For those of you familiar with the Columbus, IN area here are more details as to where the business would have been: Kay Mfg and Eads Service station were across the street. Mr. Carl Fox bought the "triangle" as defined by 25th St., Beam Rd. and US 31. There were 3 houses along 25th street. Bill's Self Serve was on the corner of Beam and 25th. The land was later sold to the the folks that built the Bob-o-Link (Bob Beirline ?) and later the Columbus Motel. Bill's Self Serve later became Allen's (I believe) or (Bob Harrell's) Self Serve when it was sold around 1950. Bill's Self Serve was ran by William (Bill) Cooper. Any help or guidance on how to find this information would be appreciated. Malynda
