As such, he has visited practically all the churches and communities of the county and was known and loved by all. His death was said to have been in keeping with his long, unselfish life. Through his three weeks of illness he never murmured a word of complaint, and he maintained to the last moment the faith that had upheld him throughout his life. Mr. Howerth was born in Bolton, England. He came to America in the year 1830, and lived variously in the states of New York, Pennsylvania, and Ohio for several years. However, 61 years of his life were spent in Indiana, first in Brown County and then in Columbus and East Columbus. Mr. Howerth dwelt in Illinois a short time. Mr. Howerth was proprietor of the old Madison House at the corner of Fourth and Franklin Streets for a few years. 3. Hello Virginia, John R. Beaty (Bartholomew Co.) was born in KY, according to the 1870 census. Rachael was born in Ohio. John has considerable resources...28,500 in Real Estate, 4500 in Personal Property. That said, the Franklin Co. Probate Records (online at the Franklin Co. Website) shows John R. Beaty leaving an impressive Inventory and Appraisal list at his death. The same name, the fact that Elizabeth Beaty, the widow, had a son under the age of 10 in the 1820 census, and financial resources makes me wonder. My Campbell line was in Franklin Co. same time frame purchased land 1821 in Jackson Twp, Shelby (on the Bartholomew line). Same line that was a good friend of John R. Beaty and also buried at Robert's Chapel. Who knows...just a thought! I'm looking at everything. Trying to track the Campbell line prior to 1817 when they appear on the Tax List Franklin Co. IN. They came from NC, but have been unable to find their trail. 3. Hello Anne -- My Beatys, Coopers, Owens, and the McQueens and Laymons were all Separate Baptists attending services at a church in Flatrock Twp. that was originally held on Nathaniel Owens' land. It would seem more likely that your John R. Beaty was one of my Kentucky group if he attended this church. Could you give me his dates? Maybe it would help fit him in. 1. [INBARTHO] Mt. Olive Cemetery lookup - Eleazer Rouse/Rowse/Raush and Eliza McKee Rouse Mitchell
    2. Lee Anne Center
    3. This is a cemetery lookup request. Is there a cemetery inventory or index that shows where in Indiana Eleazer Rouse was buried? He died in 1848 when struck by a falling coon tree, according to family information. He and wife Eliza McKee sold their land in 1836 and 1838. No one knows for sure where Eleazer and Eliza were buried, but one researcher in the 1980s thought it was probably Mt. Olive Cemetery in Harrison, Bartholomew County, IN. Another source says that Eleazer was buried in Bloomington, IN. Since this is a Bartholomew County list, I am asking if anyone has found a headstone for Eleazer Rouse, who died in 1848. The same researcher said that Eliza died between 1870 - 1880, and that Eleazer and Eliza are buried in the same cemetery. That researcher also says that an Eliza Rouse married Edward Mitchell 9 Apr. 1850, allowing the reader to determine if she believed or thought that Eliza McKee married Edward. If she did marry Edward Mitchell, Eliza's surname could be Mitchell on the headstone (Eliza McKee Rouse Mitchell). Lee Anne

    3. Hello Anne -- The Beatys I am researching came from KY probably about 1825, judging from the children's birthdates and where they were born. We think they came from Montgomery County, KY, their father being Thomas Beaty who died there in 1817. Prior to that time, the family probably came from Virginia. The Ohio Beatys, whom I described earlier, I believe to have been in Bartholomew Co. as early as 1821. The family I spent time with was the 1821 William married to Mariah/Mary -- I eventually was able to distinguish him and his progeny from my group. Mariah was widowed early but did a lot of land transactions. If you are positive your Rachel is a Runyan, not a Layman, maybe your Beatys are Ohio Beatys. Franklin Co. John COULD have been a brother to KY Thomas. Franklin Co. COULD have been a stop along the way. Do you have any clues as to where Franklin Co. John came from? I wonder if he is listed on any of the lineages on the Beaty Project 2000. 3. Some of us who have been working on this believe that this John Beaty (I call him German Twp. John) was the son of Thomas Beaty, who died in Bartholomew Co. abt. July 8, 1831, and was from KY. If so, John's mother was Henrietta. We think German Twp. John was a brother to Darius Beaty who settled in Flatrock Twp., also from KY. There was another possible brother James in Flatrock Twp., and I have speculated that Marcella Beaty, who married John McQueen and who lived in Flatrock Twp., may have been a sister, as her age and dates fit neatly within this family. If someone knows otherwise, please let me know!!! German Twp. John's land was actually very close to the parcels owned by the Flatrock Twp. clan. The Layman family, the McQueens, the Beatys and the Owens families were involved in the same church and I think they were tightly interconnected. Layman and McQueen ministers performed marriages for Beatys and Owens, for example. Tammy McCoige Miller in Bartholomew County has extensive information on the Cooper/Beaty family which has helped us sort these people out. But I have to say that the above relationships are probable only, not proven. My ancestor William Beaty, we believe to have been a brother to Thomas Beaty, and I believe it was this William who was appointed administrator to Thomas' estate. My William had children Joseph, David, John M., Darius, William, Mary Jane, and maybe James Orville. The Beatys named their children the same series of names, leading to much confusion, and as I stated earlier, several of them, after migrating to Tipton County, returned to Bartholomew County. Furthermore, my William saw no need to record his deeds when purchasing land, so while you can find deeds when it is sold, it leaves you wondering when it was obtained. 3. Yes, several families were tightly connected and interconnected in this Flat Rock area. Sorting them is quite difficult. My Campbell family is connected as well. Washington Campbell and John R. Beaty were close friends and in a failed business together. Washington's first wife was Cinthian Runyan, dau. of Henry and Mary(Laymon)Runyan. Marriage performed by Martin Laymon. I believe they were Separate Baptists. At least Washington was listed as Supt. of Separate Baptist Sabbath School circa 1870. Unfortunately, they did not believe in leaving records! Many are buried in Roberts Chapel Cemetery on the Bartholomew Co. portion. Thank you for the Beatty information. It helps tie up some loose ends. Do any of these families have North Carolina roots?
