Copies of these records are at the Columbus Public Library in their Indiana Room. I have relatives in Newbern Cemetery also. Most of the stones there are easy to read. A few are overgrown but the cemetery in general is in very good condition.

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/lh.2ADE/2107.1 Message Board Post: A couple of ideas for you: 1. What faith was he? A very large number of Quakers emigrated to Indiana around 1800 with several more coming in the next 50-60 years. Indiana, particularly Jackson County which is south of Columbus (Bartholomew County), had a sizeable Quaker community in the 19th Century. The fact that he eventually settled in Jackson County is significant in that respect. 2. What was his name and the name of possible relatives and friends? It is always possible those relatives/friends emigrated previously and told him of favorable conditions (both social and economic) in Columbus at that time. 3. Did he stay in Indiana or did he move on? Indiana was a favorable stopping point in the 1850s and 1860s for settlers moving on west, especially Iowa and Illinois. Hope this gives you a couple of ideas of where to start....

At the very end of the war, he deserted with a friend and requested passage to Columbus, IN. He eventually settled in Jackson County. Does anyone know what might have attracted him to the Columbus area? Any ideas or suggestions would be helpful. Thanks.

Anna Mary Werner, ggrandmother remarried Mr. LaMar after Werner died Others buried there, but not found were: Flora Werner,d.1858, George Werner,d. 1857, Franklin Werner d. 1854,and Louisa Werner, d.1856.. Any help in locating these relatived would be welcomed. I have a sheet showing those buried here but do not know how accurate it is. Is there a sexton for this cemetary??

The town is located east of Columbus on Indiana State Road 46. Newbern is an exceptionally small town with only one street, running parallel to S.R. 46. The cemetery is located on this street on the east side of town, on the top of the hill, just before the street runs back into S.R. 46. It is extremely well-kept but I'm not sure if it is still actively being used. I live only a few miles from it and have relatives buried there; been there a few times as well. Are you looking for a particular name or individual?
There is a cemetery in Newbern that I have visited before. It is located a block or so north of State Rd. 46 and is visible from 46 as you approach Newbern from the east. I don't know what the official name might be--have just heard it referred to as Newbern Cemetery but there must have been a church there at one time for in the 1879 Barth. Co. Atlas it shows a Christian Church and cemetery on the plat map of Newbern. Also see at least two listings for E. Davis and E. Davis heirs on the Clifty township plat near Newbern.
