    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/lh.2ADE/2184 Message Board Post: As an amateur genealogist, I enjoy doing family history research. I have no science background, but I accept the use of DNA test results as a tool for learning family history combined with genealogical research techniques. Already in our Hull Surname DNA Study, conventional research coupled with DNA testing is proving to be a very powerful method for verifying family lines. Specifically, it is benefiting Hull families, but the genealogical community, in general, in proving ancestry. DNA genealogy can be a very valuable tool if applied properly and if its limitations are clearly understood. A DNA test can provide solid direction and clues in a shorter period of time for the family researcher, who most likely has spent a great deal of time and money looking for bits and pieces of information that over the years resulted in far less discovery and much frustration. Are any of the many Hull* families living in colonial America in the 18th century like Richard Hull of New Hampshire, Johann Nickel Holl of Pennsylvania, Benjamin Hull of North Carolina, George and Joseph Hull or George Hull of Massachusetts, Peter Thomas Hohl of Virginia, or Jesse Hull of Tennessee, related? Which researchers should be collaborating because their lines have a common ancestor? Can connections be made between the families in Maryland, Pennsylvania, Missouri, or Kansas with those in Kentucky, Iowa, Michigan, or those who emigrated to Canada, and elsewhere? How many distinct Hull lines exist that are unique to common male ancestors associated with your Hull surname? Are the various Hull families from England or Germany related, and can families be traced back to a specific location? *Variant spellings of the surname, i.e., Hohl, Holl, Hoel, Holle In order to answer the question whether there is mainly one, or there are many initiating Hohl/Holl/Hall/Hull/Hoel ancestors, one will need broad participation by many from these lines. For this reason alone, I would like to encourage as many of you as possible to participate in this Study. You may find totally unexpected relationships with other Hohl lines. The Name ZIEGLER or SIGLER is mentioned already in 1764 in some books on the history of the Shenadoah County, Virginia. In fact, a George ZIEGLER (SIGLER) was kind of a hero, dying protecting women and children from the Indians. There was one Hessian soldier Wilhem ZIEGELER settling in Washington County, later known as SEAGLER. Sincerely, John H. Merz, researching Hessian soldiers of the American Revolution.

    1. [InBartho] Tie back to Daniel Zeigler (1784-1837)?
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: ZEIGLER, LYNCH, DRAKE, ROMINGER Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/lh.2ADE/2179 Message Board Post: I am now retired, and can devote some time to this now! Most of my data is someplace in my basement; had to move it to high ground when the condenser flooded the basement.....Anyway, I provide the following information in hopes that someone may be able to fill in the blanks. I'm looking for links to Daniel Zeigler, b. 1784 in Shenandoah Co, VA. Married Anna Maria Rominger (b. in Stokes Co. NC, Sep 5, 1785) in 1805; moved to Indiana and was involved with establishing the Moravian Church in Southern Indiana. Died in 1837, Hope or Columbus, IN. I think this is my lineage. It gets wierd when I get to the 20th Century. My great-grandfather was Raymond E. Zeigler (b. Sep 14 1889, d. Abt. 1961). Married Mamie Irene Lynch (b. 02/14/1890, d. Abt. 1960) on 05 Apr. 1908. One son from this union: John Alfred Zeigler (b. 05 May 1909, d. March 1977). John Alfred married Doris Barrows about 1926. One son from this union, my father, Alfred Edison Zeigler (b. 06/23/1927, d. 03/14/1995). John Alfred Zeigler divorced my grandmother and remarried Mary Drake; they had two sons. John Alfred Zeigler, Jr. and Robert (I think). I don't remember Robert, but John and I used to play together. My granddad owned Zeigler's Boat Shop. It was located across from Cummins' main plant at the corner of Central and State Streets, right on the Haw Creek. Stadler's Meat packing was right across the creek. John, as far as I know, lives in Hope, Indiana. Robert lives out west somewhere. Mary owned Zeigler's Tailor Shop on Washington Street in Columbus. When I last s! aw her, at my dad's funeral, she still went into the tailor shop a couple of days or so. I haven not heard from any of them since then, and I do no know if she is still living. My father, Alfred Edison Zeigler married Lorraine Hensley (b. 10/08/1926, d. 02/13/1991) on 10/18/1946. My mother was born on October 8. 1926 and died on February 13 1991. I am their only child. I was born August 8, 1948 in Columbus, IN. I currently live in Stafford, VA. Before Raymond Zeigler, it gets rather dicey. There were some divorces, etc. that cloud it up a bit. What I am trying to do is verify the lines back to Daniel Zeigler, or find the correct line. Because of divorces, etc. there is a murky quality to this search. I'm trying to trace it back to Europe, but haven't had time or luck in the past. There are very few Zeiglers in Germany; it is more common in Switzerland, and practically nonexistent in Austria. Some say that it is actually French--probably from Alsace-Lorraine (Elsass-Lothringen) and the family was part of the French Huguenots who fled France during the French Revolution. I was told that the original Zeigler ancestor was a Hessian soldier, who either deserted or surrendered at Yorktown, and after the American Revolution settled in Shenandoah Co. So much for my daughter becoming a member of the DAR.....Any info is greatly appreciated. Stephen A. Zeigler
