There were Perrys here in Bartholomew early, living in the same general area (northwest quarter of the county); Ransom Perry was quite prominent, one of the first 12 land purchasers in 1820. He came from North Carolina and Tennessee, and the Coxes from Ohio, so not likely they had any connection before they arrived in Bartholomew. Boys were occasionally named in honor of Commodore Perry, but I think that was probably later that 1821. Do you have exact dates for John Perry Cox's birth & death? For my files. Thanks

    2. James L. Collins (b.11 Feb 1885) and Ethel A. Oakes (b.22 Aug 1884) were married on 15 Apr 1912 in Shelby County IN. Ethel was the daughter of Ben and Emily Williams of Johnson County, and had been previously married in Bartholomew County. We'd like to find descendants of this couple, but, in particular, we'd like to find Ethel's child by a prior marriage, who might have been born some time in abt 1902. We believe that this child, now surely deceased, would be a half-sibling to my mother. We don't know if the child was raised by Collins or was perhaps adopted by others. It's been a longtime mystery in our family. We'd appreciate any help we could get. Jim Patrick, Tampa, FL Researching 4 distinct lines: 1. 3. Donna, while I am researching what I think are KEIL'S, I have also seen it as KEEL, KEAL & KIEL so at this time will ask if you have a Nancy who married a James WAUGHTEL aka WAUGHTELL and sometimes taken for WACHTEL. I have a picture of them on my website, Nancy was born circa 1815 in Pennsylvania and came to Indiana as an infant down the Ohio on a flatboat with her parents/family and they settled on the Indiana side opposite Carrollton, Kentucky. This was in a newspaper write-up of Nancy. She died in 1910 in Jennings County, Indiana and James died Jennings County, Indiana 1906 being born 1810 in Virginia. They married in Jefferson County, Indiana if I remember right. I know nothing of her parents, possibly a sister Alla since she was in the 1850 census with James & Nancy age 16 but no relationship given. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/lh.2ADE/2210.1.2 Message Board Post: I worked on this family for a query some time ago, so accumulated a file on them. Have a copy of a family group sheet for John Perry Cox that says he was b. 6 June 1820, at Marietta, Washington Co., OH; parents given as Samuel? and Henrietta? John Perry Cox d. 29 Mar. 1893, Independence, Montgomery Co., KS. This sheet dated 16 Feb. 2000, from Judith Stevens, 2130 N. Lewis St., Santa Ana, CA 92706; [email protected] More material from Sara Singleton Slaven, 120 N. Riverside Drive, Winamac, IN 46996; [email protected], which says that Samuel Cox was b. abt 1790 PA, son of Michael and Margaret McCray Cox. Michael and Margaret both d. about 1800, in Bourbon Co., KY and their children, Elizabeth, John, William, Andrew, Samuel and Hannah, were sent to an uncle, Martin McCray in Ohio. These children are named in a deed record in the parents' estate in Kentucky. Samuel Cox m. Henrietta Kitson 28 July 1816 at Dayton, OH. She was b. about 1800, Canada. They came to Indiana about 1827, listed on 1830 census for Bartholomew Co. By 1850 they were in Johnson Co. (Hensley Twp). In 1870, Henrietta was living in Columbus (Barth. Co.) with a married daughter, Elizabeth Williams. There are two matching grave markers at the Atterbury Cemetery in Johnson Co. that are probably this Cox couple. One reads, "In Memory of Henrietta Cox" and the other simply says, "In Memory of Cox." No dates. This cemetery is off the west side of St. Rd. 31, north of Edinburgh, and includes a number of cemeteries that were moved out of Camp Atterbury at the outset of WWII. The graves are on the left side of the drive, about halfway down, and 3 rows back. Samuel Cox did not own any land in 1850; don't know where they were in 1860. Unless he bought land before he died, he probably had no estate record. There is no estate for him in Bartholomew. Children I have listed for Samuel and Henrietta Cox are Margaret, b. 1817 OH; Stephen, b. 1819 OH; Charlotte, b. 1826 OH (she m. Samuel Kiser 4 May 1844); Elizabeth, b. 1828 IN; William A., b. 1832 IN; and Mary S., b. 1838 IN. This is a piecemeal list, not complete, so your John Perry Cox may well be another sibling. Probably at least one other between John Perry and Charlotte; and another between Elizabeth and William. Maybe more later. Stephen Cox and his wife were living in 1870, not found after that. He also was very poor, didn't own anything, and left little to trace. His sister Elizabeth Williams was living in 1870 in Columbus, don't know about her after that either.. Could some of these others have gone to Kansas too?

Surnames: Parker, Leach Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/lh.2ADE/2212 Message Board Post: Esther Ann Parker married Reuben Leach in Bartholomew county, Indiana on Sept. 27, 1850. It appears that she was married to a Parker before she married Reuben Leach, as she already had 3 children in her home when the 1850 Federal Census was done. The children were Catherine, age 9, Maranda(?), age 5, and another girl, age 14, whose name I could not make out. Do you know what Esther Ann's maiden name was and who her parents were? It appears that she was widowed or divorced from the Parker by around 1845. When the 1870 Federal Census was taken, she was living in Sullivan county, Indiana and her name was listed as Hester A. Any help concerning her and her lineage will be very much appreciated.
