He is officially listed as missing or buried at sea and his name appears on the “Tablets of the Missing” at the Manila American Cemetery in the Philippines. We are seeking information regarding his military and civilian life and especially locate any family members still living so we can send them the free photographs of his grave site and the beautiful memorial in the Philippines. We have found the following reference at the Indiana State Library website; World War II database. We do not have the information because we do not have access to the microfilms here in the Philippines but we are hoping for some help from our posting. Our goal is to find the families of Indiana servicemen and present them with free photographs of their loved one’s grave sites and names as they appear on the “Tablets”. This information will increase our chances of finding the families. Please help us! References: Indianapolis Star September 5, 1942 Missing in Action Page 9, Column 5 Indianapolis Star September 18, 1942 Missing in Action Page 15, Column 1 I am a retired Hoosier from Madison County Indiana residing in the Philippines with my Filipino wife. We are seeking family and military information of nearly a thousand servicemen from Indiana killed in the South Pacific during World War II. There are 17,206 Americans buried here and thousands more that are missing or buried at sea and are honored on the “Tablets of the Missing”. Please visit our website to see the beautiful memorial located in Manila, Philippines. http://fizkid.tripod.com/ My wife and I visited the cemetery as visitors and left with a mission in our heart. We have been taking photographs of the graves of the Indiana servicemen buried here and have been uniting them (at no charge) with their family members in Indiana and across the United States. To receive the photo of your family member, neighbor or friend all you need is a working email address. We do not send them to regular mailing addresses due to the costs. Please help us find the families of the men that might still be living. Our project is only successful because of teamwork and your contributions are noted on our website. If you wish to help us we will be pleased to add your name to our ACKNOWLEDGMENT page on the website. The obituaries usually did not appear till to three months after the death date. If you are not a genealogist you can help by just picking up the telephone directory and find someone with the same last name and give them a call. It has worked many times for us. My David A. Erwin was born in Posey Co IN in 1846. He did join the Union army in Posey Co. in 1864. He was in Company A 10th Cav. This military regiment was started in Columbus IN. David's wife Francis died in 1903 in IL I have censuses 1850, 1880, 1900, 1910, 1920 for David A and his family. David first applied for a pension in 1878 and every few years he would ask for an increase in his pension. In 1913, David wrote a letter to the to the goverment and he signed it David A Erwin, Hope, Indiana Bartholomew County. This was a long trip for a person from Crossville IL to Hope. I am not aware of any family member living in that area during that time period. There had to be some one or an organization that helped him. Why was he there?? Perhaps I will never find out. As someone said "They can't run but they can hide." Thanks, Larry Erwin

I believe that you have conflicting information...due to the spelling of the name. The one in Bartholomew Co. is Irwin... Posey Co. Erwin. The one from Posey Co. wasn't old enough to serve in the CW. The one in Bartholomew Co was. Does the wives names jive??? Hope this helps.

Hello, What is the name of the cemetery in Shelby, that is nearby Flat Rock? Everyone I have talked to still insists that Elijah and Mary Pope are buried there in Flat Rock, but I cannot find any proof of it. I believe she died in the late 1820's and he died around 1843. Maybe the mystery may never be solved. He changed from Baptist to being a Campbellite and that may have something to do with it right there. He may have been considered an outcast, because the Baptist and Campbellites have different believes. Thanks, Linda

I apologize for jumping in here, but I would love to know if any Campbells are on the list. Anyone circa 1875? Also, could you tell me where the Flatrock Baptist Cemetery is in relation to Robert's Chapel Cemetery on the Shelby/Bartholomew Line. Part of this cemetery is in Bartholomew and the other (newer) is in Shelby. Are they near each other? Thank you. I have a picture of Louise/Poggenbeck/Franke/Horman with her grandchildren. I recognize the the three Meyer children, but not the other 6. I presume the other 6 are from the 2 marriages of the 2 Franke sisters. The Franke sisters married George and Henry Rotert. I am looking for someone who might be able to ID the other 6 children of 2 boys and 4 girls. Thanks Dwayne Meyer
