I have found some information that applies to my family tree but it is within a very large gedcom file. Cathy >> Hello Cathy, I have Family TreeMaker of Windows 6.0. You can use Family Tree Maker to manipulate that gedcom to extract just the data you want. NOTE: Begin back backing up your current FTM master database and its backup. Mine store as .FTW and .FBK files. 1) Open the gedcom you downloaded and save it as an FTM file. Your original family file will be saved during this process. I would save the downloaded gedcom and the newly created FTM file based on it in a folder by itself. 2) Then go into your Report form in FTM and choose a Custom Report format. 3) With this Custom Report format, right click your mouse button and select Individuals to Include. You can select only the people you want to see in the report individually or by selecting one person and then choosing all descendants or ancestors or both. Review your report to make sure you've included only the individuals you wanted to include. 4) Once the report rebuilds itself, you can export only those people in that report to their own gedcom or FTM file by selecting the "File" menu option and then the "Copy/Export Individuals in Report." Make sure to use a new filename and store this smaller file separate from you own master database. 5) Now you can open this new fil and review it again in FTM database format. or ... 6) Re-open your own original FTM file and merge your newly crreated file into it. Once you get the hang of this procedure, it really works quite nicely. I use this custom report technique to extract specific lines from my master database for relatives who want limited gedcom data on that line. Good Luck!!
