Karen, This may be helpful to you. My family was originally named Garvelmann, changed it to Garbelmann, then to Garman, then to German. They lived in State Center and Marshalltown. Then went to St. John's Lutheran. Referring to Jerry Garman, do you have an approximate birthdate? It could be that he is one of the lost Germans, as there was a Jerald German born about 1890 that we know nothing about.
