First of all, the library there is WONDERFUL! The staff was very helpful. It was wonderful to have all the census and other microfilm at my fingertips. We were able to locate my Myers ancestors on the 1860, 1870, 1880, 1900, 1910 and 1920 censuses! While we were there, we also visited the Huntertown Cemetery, Dutch Ridge Cemetery, and saw the Dutch Ridge School, Salem Reformed (Dutch Ridge) Church, and the house and barn that Nathan Myers (or one of his children) built. Standing on the land was a thrill! While at Huntertown, I found more grave markers that "belong" to us. Someone has put flowers on many of the stones, so someone local is related. The problem, of course, is finding out who that person is! If anyone on the list knows of Myers researchers living in Allen County / Perry Township, I'd sure appreciate the network! I am going to write to the Huntertown Historical Society to see if they can help with any more information. There are lots and lots of Myers living in Allen County! All in all, I was very, very pleased with my trip. Downtown Fort Wayne was much nicer than I thought (I don't know what I had in mind, but I was pleasantly surprised). I hope to make it back there for another fact-finding trip. It is a 3-1/2 hour drive from my home. I wish it was closer. Anyway . . . I just thought I'd share with all of you my happy thoughts. Karen
Hello, Is anyone on this list researching SIMMERS roots in Allen Co.? I am researching HOLLOPETER lines and came across a marriage for: John SIMMERS (b. 1881) who md. Julia HOLLOPETER (b. 1888) in Allen Co. in 1909. Does anyone know what became of this couple? There is a John A. Simmers (1881-1917) listed as interred in Stephenson Family (Sugar Creek) Cemetery in Monroe Twp., but no Julia Simmers. ~D. Karen, Just a suggestion, the next time you are at the cemetery, leave a message on the stone for the person who is taking care of the plot. Many times they will answer you back. I have left messages in a baggie so that the weather does not ruin it, with my name and address. The next relative to go there will see it and hopefully answer you. I got this from another list. I sure hope it's true! Thought it is worth passing on. More than 20,000 community newspapers, some long out of print, have recorded American life since the 17th century and two unique organizations have set the common goal of providing Internet access to this documentation of American heritage. The National Newspaper Association (NNA) and Cold North Wind Corporation signed a letter of intent today to create America's Chronicles(SM), an online search engine that accesses the digital archives of America's community newspapers, beginning with the archives of the 3600 NNA member newspapers. The project could eventually result in 500,000,000 pages of original, historical content dating back to the 1600s and will be available online at http://www.americaschronicles.com. The site will be launched at the NNA's 116th Annual Convention and Trade Show in Milwaukee, September 12-15, with access to the first of many digital archives.

A while back, someone was asking about an orphan in Marshall County, Indiana. I forwarded the messge to my dad and he sent back some very useful information. Alas! I somehow deleted Dad's message and the message from this list. If that person will contact me, I will put you in contact with my Dad. Dad (Roland Young) has done considerable research in Marshall County over the years. He has the address for the Marshall County Historical Society and what they have there. My understanding is that the Historical Society has lots of the old records, court, vitals, land, etc. They have their own building in an old department store in Plymouth. Dad thought that they would have the orphanage records or be able to direct anyone to where they would be now. Dad grew up in Marshall County and does remember an orphanage being operated in the Plymouth area. Teresa Barnes

Can anyone tell me what newspapers were published in Allen County in the late 1800's? I know there was one in Fort Wayne -- were there any published in or about Huntertown? I'd like to track down obituaries for my Myers ancestors who lived in the Huntertown and Dutch Ridge/Collingwood areas of Perry Township. Karen
Found a Julia (Josephine) Fell married to a John Poinsett in Fort Wayne in 1898. She was listed with him in the 1900 Census. She was 46 at the time of her marriage to John and died in 1923. This maybe my Julia Poinsett, listed in the obit for her brother, George F. Roux. She had a son Emil, but though the son was named Poinsett in the obit, as a nephew to George, he would have more than likely had another last name, perhaps Fell, if this is the correct Julia. Anyone know of any Fells of Fort Wayne? Terry Spear of Crawford, Texas

Can anyone tell me how much it would cost to have someone in Allen County lookup and obtain a copy of a Will for me? I live too far away to do it myself, but if it's too expensive, it will have to wait for a research trip later this year. My ancestor is Nathan Myers. He lived on Auburn Road in Allen County, and donated part of his land to the Salem Reformed (Dutch Ridge) Church, where they first put their cemetery and later built their church (which is still standing today). Nathan died October 6, 1886 and is buried in Perry Township, in the Dutch Ridge Cemetery. Also, is there any way to find out if any newspaper articles were written about Nathan's donation of land to the church without going through each and every newspaper? Was there a local newspaper for the Huntertown/Collingswood/Dutch Ridge area of Perry Township? Thanks for your help, Karen

Searching for information on Fort Wayne family, Julia Roux and her son, Emil Poinsett. Julia was the sister to George F. Roux of Fort Wayne. Both of the Rouxs were born in France. George's daughter Emilie Roux married a Henry Hoffman. Henry Lawrence Hoffman and wife, Ellen Bridget Ryan, had a daughter, Irene who married another Poinsette....Leo J. Trying to make the connections between the families. I'm not sure if Henry Lawrence remarried Ellen Bridget Ryan, then had a daughter, Irene, or if Henry Hoffman had a brother named Henry Lawrence. Hi, Hi, Just got back this afternoon from ACPL. I love that place!!! Sorry, I don't have an answer to this query but it reminded me of a question I meant to ask there. In Lucas County, OH where I live we have a collection of pictures from the County Auditors going back to the 1930s and 1940s. Is there any such collection in Allen County? Hi, My great grandparents adopted a girl ( I don't know what year they adopted her)named Mabel (or Maybelle) Riddle. She had their last name of McNabb (at least in the divorce papers). My great grandparents were divorced in 1919. In 1920 Mabel was, as the divorce papers read, "committed to the Orphans Home in Plymouth, Indiana." The Juvenile court of Allen County had something to do with it. Apparently my great grandpa didn't pay child support, and great Grandma couldn't care for her anymore. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can find out more about Mabel and what happened? I don't have a clue! Thank you for any help you may be able to give. Yours in Christ, Debbie _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com
