I would like to see trancripts of marriage records, birth records, deaths, obituaries etc. because I will likely never make it to Indiana to research these in person. ----- Original Message ----- From: <Sweet2Olivia@aol.com> To: <INALLEN-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, June 27, 2001 1:21 PM Subject: [INALLEN-L] a new allen county website.. > I am working on making and gathering information to put on an Allen > County website and I was wondering what kind of information you would like to > see included. Theresa, Thanks so much for looking. My Myers' ancestor's farm was the one directly south of the Dutch Ridge Church, on the west side of Auburn Road. It consisted of about 70-80 acres, I think. Would you mind looking near Huntertown to see if any Myers/Meyers are listed there? I really appreciate it! On the 1910 and 1920 censuses, Israel and Kate Myers (my great-great-grandparents) were apparently living close to town. I don't know if they were renting or not. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Karen > I cannot find any Myers on section 11 of Perry township in my 1918 > plat book. The major land owners then were an M. Warner, N. Snyder, J. & > C.M. Karen, I cannot find any Myers on section 11 of Perry township in my 1918 plat book. The major land owners then were an M. Warner, N. Snyder, J. & C.M. Akey, Benj. Vandolah, J,F.Belot, A. Guielin (?) H.W. Lesh and J.W. Hutson. There is one 12 acre tract with initials L.W. and another 10 acre one G. W???????? (I can't make it out.) Sorry I could'nt find the Myers name there, but this information may narrow the time period in which the family lived there. Theresa Martin
Can anyone tell me how many township maps there are for Perry Township that show land ownership? I have copies of the 1880 and 1898, which both show my Myers ancestors in Section 11. Are there others? Thanks, Karen
Do you know any more about these Myers folks? Maybe they "belong" to me and I just don't know it. Karen > Lydia Myers (1802-1873) md. Abraham Hollopeter (1800-1869) > Jacob Thaddeus Myers md. Well, I've been lurking here and will add my two cents worth. I have Myers folks mixed in with my Allen Co. Hollopeters and Stevicks. If these ring a bell with any of you Myers researchers, I would love to compare notes: Lydia Myers (1802-1873) md. Abraham Hollopeter (1800-1869) Jacob Thaddeus Myers md. I can't believe it, but I did find a Myers, Byers connection in my notes. Harry Mancel BYERS born 21 Novemebr 1901 to Ernest R. Byers of Ohio and Clara E. Myers of Ohio. It's a delayed birth record of April 30, 1942. Of course I have no idea who Ernest R. Byers or his son is.... but I do have a lot of other Byers in my lines from that area.... still searching. Sherri Chekal GILBERT GOOD BYERS LHAMON FLEENOR
Karen So What did you decided on the Farm House? Which one is your Myers ancestors house? Dave
I've been watching this Myers/Monroeville thing fairly closely, because I *think* I have some distant relationships in within the Monroeville Myers, mainly because my grandmother's things had a couple Myers funeral cards, plus there were Myers listed on my great grandparents funeral records as attending AND in my grandmother's things I have a photo album that I think has a few pictures of Myers in it. Whew. Yet I have not yet made the connections. However, here is my lineage, perhaps that will help things out. My father is Gary W. Gilbert. My mother, Patricia Ann Fleenor or Fort Wayne. His father was Carl Jennings Gilbert of Convoy, OH. (Really near Monroeville) His mother was Mildred Irene Good. She is my grandmother and the one that has left me these wonderful bits of photos and such. Her parents were George Christian Good of Gar Creek, Milan TWP, IN and Dora E. Byers of Monroeville. Carl's parents were Martin Jackson Gilbert of Convoy and Rosantha Ellen Lhamon of Van Wert. Martin Jackson Gilbert's father was James W. Gilbert of Convoy/Van Wert. George Christian Good's father was Henry Adam Good Sr. of Gar Creek, IN. I suspect that the Myers, married into the Byers lines of my grandmother's mother's family. This is just a guess right now. I am only into genealogy about a year and half right now and have been to the Allen County Public LIbrary now THREE TIMES!!! Not nearly enough, this is for certain! I live in Perrysburg Ohio, which is about an hour and 15 minutes away, but I have small children (7 and 11) and they don't think spending 12 hours in a library is much fun. A couple hours, yes, but 12... that's pushing it. Any connections or information on those surnames of GILBERT, GOOD, BYERS, LHAMON of FLEENOR, would be wholeheartedly accepted with lots of thanks! And if I figure out the Myers connections, I'll give a shout. I'll try and go back and look in the scrapbook for some actual names. Perhaps I can fill in photo references for some people. This album I have is from the 1930's to about 1940. Many thanks... Sherri Chekal
Hi! I was confused first and realized I was responding to the wrong party on this Myers name subject. I remember a Jim Borcherding and a Mary Knox, along with her two sisters, one of which was Johanna (can't recall the middle one's name). I have lived in the area for 70+ years and we were either riders on the same school bus routes or together in school, or just friends. The George Monesmith story rings closer to home as my mother and him were seriously dating; but religious conflictions broke up the relationship. Do you have any knowledge of him, first, and secondly, any pictures of him? I have an unnamed picture in my mother's collection which my older sister had said it was George Monesmith. Sorry for the confusion but maybe we can renew old friendships through our common memories. Toddie102@aol.com (Theresa)
I'm kinda lost,? My husbands family Borcherding are from Monroeville, lived on Route 30, also the name Knox. Are you looking for someone, I sent an email to some one who asked about the Myers family, we also have a Monesmith connection. Toddie, I don't have any Borcherdings in my database, but that doesn't mean they shouldn't be there! I've got lots and lots of holes left to fill. I haven't really looked in the Monroeville area. We do have a John N. Myers in our family tree. He was born in 1839, the son of Nathan and Leah Myers. John married Margerett Barrett. They had four children that I know of. Margerett and her daughter, Catherine, are buried in Dutch Ridge Cemetery in Perry Township. I don't know where John is buried. It seems that our Myers are scattered all over the place -- it's very possible John and Margerett lived in the Monroeville area. I will await your response. It seems that I should know of your husband's family. I mean the Borcherdings. Have you researched the Myers in the Monroeville, IN area? There was a John and Oren living in Jackson township in the early 1900's. My mother grew up on the next farm to John Myers residence. She also dated a George Monesmith who lived at a settlement called, Townley which was the intersection of US Road 30 (Lincoln Highway) and SR 101. This is just 3 miles west of the Ohio line. I know some of the offspring of these Myers lines; I will inquire about your possible connection Toddie102@aol.com

Karen, The next time you are there put a note on one of the tombstones of your relatives and see what happens. I did that in a cemetery in Arkansas one time and the man who tend the cemetery turned it over to the historical society and I got a lot of information from a genealogist there. I wrapped the note in plastic and taped it on. Try it and see what happens. And you're so right about Ft. Wayne and the library. I just love it, and it sure beats the Newberry Library here in Chicago. I am also about 3-1/2 hours away but wished I lived there. Good luck, Phyllis H.Niles BeTheBull@aol.com wrote: > Just got back from my first trip to Allen County. First of all, the library > there is WONDERFUL! The staff was very helpful. Karl, You're right -- here goes. If anyone on the list is visiting Huntertown Cemetery (Cedar Canyon Road in Perry Township), could you please place my name and address on the stone of Israel and Catharine Myers? Theirs is a double heart shaped stone. It's on the north side of the road, fairly close to the road. There is another stone identical to theirs a couple of rows away -- that's the stone of Israel and Catharine's daughter and her first husband, Evelena and William Frederickson. Please e-mail me privately and I will send you my full name and address. Thanks so much! Karen > Why wait a year? > > Perhaps someone local on the list periodically visits that cemetery. Pat, I have a Lilly, but she is Lilly Bell, not Lilly Mae. Our Lilly Bell married Jerry Garman. Their names appear many times in the Salem Reformed Church records. Lilly Bell Myers is the child of Israel and Catharine Myers. They lived in Perry Township, in the Huntertown/Collingwood/Dutch Ridge area. Any chance we've got a connection? Sharon, This is a wonderful suggestion! Hopefully I will be able to get out there within the next year or so. When I do, I will certainly leave a note and hope for a reply! Karen, Why wait a year? Perhaps someone local on the list periodically visits that cemetery. ( I already deleted that message, don't remember which one) Perhaps if you supplied the info, and grave location, some one could do it for you! Just an idea!
