Brandi - How far back do the birth records go in Ft. Wayne? My ggrandfather was born there in 1823... Ellen Mueller
Is this the site where someone offered to do lookups in the above list? I just ran across a reference today for Friedr W. Hermscheips in Germans to America for the period 1850-1874. Can you find this entry and send it to me? Many thanks David Reinhardt
Hello, Here is more data to help locate a record. Thanks for your help! 1.) George WITZ born in 1821 in Germany. 2.) Mathias MILLER born 1828 in Prussia. 3.) Brandi, While I don't have any need for look-ups at this time, I would like to commend you on your wonderful manners and the quality of your writing. Give your parents a kiss and tell them they did a good job! (you probably had something to do with it, too). Nancy
To anyone interested: I am 14 years old and I do lookups at the Allen County public library for a really great price. I know that when most see my age that you think "what could she know," but my sister has taught me well on genealogy and I do a lot of lookups at the library. I know they have a lot of information on Allen County including records of births, deaths, marriages, and obits. I usually charge about $15 dollars for a lookup depending on what I am looking for, but you don't have to pay until I know that I can find something. If you are interested just email me. I know a lot about genealogy and what to look for. Thanks for your time. Sincerely, Brandi
Thank you so much for your offer to do lookups in Germans to America. Would you check to see if you find a John (Johan?) NOHR or his wife Elizabeth Zehnpfenning NOHR? John would have been born about 1830 - 1839. I do not know which year they arrived in USA, but I know they were here before 1864. Again, Thank You! Ellen Nohr Mueller

Gene, I am still trying to find info on my VOGES family. Cannot find immigration info on father Johann A. Bernhardt VOGES born 1821. Wife, Minna, had obit saying she came over in 1881 with husband. Son, Julius VOGES came in 1871 or 1872 at age of fourteen and brother Henry came about that time. Johann had a daughter, Dina, and son, William. Info on father says born Bremen, Germany. Julius was born in Klein Doren, Hanover, Germany. I am interested in any VOGESes that immigrated to the East coast. Thanks for anything you find. Susie Bacon

Hi Gene, I think your hoping in the wind if you think you won't be deluged by requests. There are a lot of Germans in Ft. Wayne. I'm betting my self 5 bucks that you get more than 50 requests. Sorry, I jsut had to comment on that. I was hoping there would be no time requests, because I'm trying to get more info. on the person I'm asking you to look up. Our library has a copy of Germans to America and I did find my g-g-grandfather. The age, time and occupation were right. But, I could not find his wife (fiancee at the time) in the correct time frame. I'm hoping with your Cd lookup something might turn up. Right now I only have confirmed the first name of my ancestor, so my info. is second hand from my grandma. I'm trying to get the microfilm on their marriage to comfirm her name and the marriage date. What I have is: Caroline Nahim Storch b.Nov. 1851, Prussia. The story is he came, work for her pasage, had his money stolen, and had to earn it again. He came Oct. 20, 1872 from the port of Breman. They were supposedly married in 1873 at St. Paul's Cathedral in Ft. Wayne. According to census info. in 1900, he had been here 28 years and she had been in US 27 years. I don't know if you will be able to find the correct woman with that infomation, but I thought it would be worth a try. Since I have not confirmed if Storch is really her last name, or something that sounds like that, I'm not sure you can find her. Anyway give it a try. Thanks, Nancy
Have you paged through the indicies for the 70+ volumes of Germans to America looking for a relative? I can look up on CD anyone 1850 to 1888 in just a few seconds. I need the name (plus names of others accompanying so I can make sure that we have the right person; if the surname is spelled differently in some records, you can give me a variation to check.), approx. date of arrival (if you have it), and age at arrival (or birthdate; this info is critical, esp. for anyone with a common name). Remember that this is only for people who were German citizens and arrived 1850-1888. I will do the look-ups on Feb 7th and 14th. Hopefully there will not be too many; if you do not hear back, it means that I did not find the person, or that I am still looking.
